Stayed at the Bayfront Westcott in June, 2004. The location on the Bay is awesome, but in my opinion, but the room (Ponce deLeon) was in need of some TLC. The wallpaper was dirty and torn in places, the bathroom needed to be repainted in spots and, overall, the room just didn't seem to be clean. The breakfast was okay, but nothing special (cereal, fruit, ready-made pastries and quiche). They do provide afternoon beverages free of charge (wine and soda) and also have bikes available (you have to ask). Although the location is great, I think for the price there are much nicer places to stay in St. Augustine rather than at the Bayfront Westcott.

Recently, my husband and took a little get-away to St. Augustine and stayed at the Bayfront Marin House (sister facility next door owned by same people is Westcott House).The experience was awful. We booked there because they allowed pets. But, what we found upon arrival was a room that had a used plastic cup that had not been discarded, a chipped glass, no toilet paper on the toilet paper holder, a sweatshirt and dirty panties in the top drawer of the dresser and a shower curtain that smelled like urine. The food was the same every day -- serve yourself pastries from a store, boxed cereal, fruit salad (one day included a dead green fly), and a frozen quiche that had been heated and placed out on the table.The staff did not clean the room during the entire stay except on the first day when one woman accompanied me to the room. I borrowed the broom and dustpan and cleaned myself.When we went to check out, we noticed on the check-out form a notation that said to do a walk-through and if needed charge an additional $70. The walk-through was done and I was told everything was fine. However, upon returning home, we discovered that our credit card had been charged $70 for excessive cleaning -- not surprising since they had't cleaned for 3 days anyway. But, the claim was that there was pet hair in the room and that pets were not allowed on the bed. This was not stated on any of their materials and seems normal use for a pet-friendly inn. They were completely unresponsive to our concerns and were told that our complaints were absurd and unbelievable. There are many inns in St. Augustine, try one of them and steer clear of these two.

We stayed here after our wedding and had a lovely time. The plan was to return annually for our anniversary, but changed our minds after our first return visit. The service had changed for the worse. No one could be found when we needed something for our ill-equipped room. The blind had a large hole in its slats, which allowed a nice view into our room.
Breakfast orders were to be placed on cards on outside doorknobs by midnight. At 9:00 am the cards had still not been picked up from our room plus any other room whose door was within view. When we called to tell them, we were told that "We didn't think anyone wanted anything." Never mind that the cards were THEIR policy. No response was made to our complaints. We had to come up with a new wedding tradition, we will definitely not go back.

We came here for our honeymoon this year and fell in love...with the Inn and with each other again. It was just what we were looking for...quiet and romantic time alone just for the two of us! All weekend we felt pampered. Thanks to the lovely staff. This one is tops.
