Recently, my husband and took a little get-away to St. Augustine and stayed at the Bayfront Marin House (sister facility next door owned by same people is Westcott House). The experience was awful. We booked there because they allowed pets. But, what we found upon arrival was a room that had a used plastic cup that had not been discarded, a chipped glass, no toilet paper on the toilet paper holder, a sweatshirt and dirty panties in the top drawer of the dresser and a shower curtain that smelled like urine. The food was the same every day -- serve yourself pastries from a store, boxed cereal, fruit salad (one day included a dead green fly), and a frozen quiche that had been heated and placed out on the table. The staff did not clean the room during the entire stay except on the first day when one woman accompanied me to the room. I borrowed the broom and dustpan and cleaned myself. When we went to check out, we noticed on the check-out form a notation that said to do a walk-through and if needed charge an additional $70. The walk-through was done and I was told everything was fine. However, upon returning home, we discovered that our credit card had been charged $70 for excessive cleaning -- not surprising since they had't cleaned for 3 days anyway. But, the claim was that there was pet hair in the room and that pets were not allowed on the bed. This was not stated on any of their materials and seems normal use for a pet-friendly inn. They were completely unresponsive to our concerns and were told that our complaints were absurd and unbelievable. There are many inns in St. Augustine, try one of them and steer clear of these two.
