“The Second Time Was Even Better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2008

We had such a wonderful experience the first time we stayed at the St. Francis, we booked a second stay before we even left for home (2500 miles away). In the interim, we were wondering if maybe we were making a mistake (often, a return trip to a place isn't as "magic" as the first experience).Once we arrived back at the St. Francis, we instantly knew we not only didn't make a mistake, but it was one of the smartest things we've done in a long time!! Our second stay was every bit as wonderful and relaxing as the first, maybe even more so because we were more familiar with all the amenities and ambience the St. Francis has to offer. And visiting with our "New Best Friend", Innkeeper Adele, was very special. Innkeeper Bev was also exceptionally helpful to us during our stay. Can't offer any "constructive criticism" because we can't think of anything upon which to improve!! For a romantic and relaxing place to stay, this is "it"!

This was the most wonderful B&B ever! My boyfriend and I shy away from B&Bs normally because they don't really cater toward a younger crowd. However, St. Francis Inn accommodates everyone! We arrived about 11pm, which wasn't a problem for the Inn at all. The room (Marie's room) was a little small, but clean and comfortable. The outside was nice too, with a pool and patio, and the location is great!

As for the perks, they keep on going and going at St. Francis Inn. There was complimentary sherry in the room (don't think they expected us to drink as much as we did!), a DELICIOUS breakfast with waffles, pancakes, eggs, homemade apple butter... the list goes on. And Bloody Marys and mimosas! There was also a happy hour on the patio with appetizers and wine (delicious snack) and a dessert hour, but we didn't take advantage of that (I can only imagine!). During the day, the Inn has several bikes you can take around town, plus discounts at local attractions. At night, you can go into the pool or even read the many books left in the room by the staff.

Speaking of the staff, I thought they were great! Very nice and friendly. I was surprised to read a review where someone thought they were rude. I felt like they would have done anything for us. We will DEFINITELY be staying at the St. Francis Inn again, no doubt!

  • Liked — Everything- but most of all, the breakfast!
  • Disliked — Liked everything!

We went to St. Augustine without a reservation, hoping to find a Bed & Breakfast. We first went to the visitors center, picked up some brochures and went off hunting for a place to stay we read the brochures and narrowed it down to several that had full breakfasts. We traveled to the main part of town. While going up and down the streets we stopped and asked a local lawn serviceman what he would recommend, he said the Inn at the end of the street was always full so it must be fairly good. We went to the Inn not knowing if they had any vacancies. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable so we could stay the needed 2 nights. They put us up in a room with a whirlpool bath for one night. Then they moved all our bags for us the next day, all we had to do was close the bags. The breakfasts were first class & not continental style, full buffet breakfasts. Lunch was snacks and drinks of your choice, Iced tea, sweet and unsweetened along with coffee, tea or soda, which was available 24/7along with cookies available all day . Your key unlocks the front door to the sitting room for evening access to the drinks. The evening dessert is a cake or some other sweet. The Inn also makes available to it's patrons a limousine service that will take you to and from any local restaurant, all you have to do is make arrangements with the staff. We would recommend this Inn to anyone wishing to have a great time. We have reserved the Inn for 3 nights and 4 days this coming November, 2008.

  • Liked — The staff was very friendly and accommodating
  • Disliked — The size of the whirlpool bathes we are large people

When I called the Inn to make our reservation, I mentioned that I was sensitive to wheat and dairy--I did not expect them to make special considerations for me, but I didn't want them to count me was an eater when they determined how much bread or cheesy eggs they needed to make. I was pleasantly surprised when the Innkeeper on the other end of the phone said, "oh! sure! I will tell our chef, he knows all about that; is it celiac sprue you have?"

I do not have celiac, but am quite intolerant of wheat and dairy. That the Innkeeper knew knew what celiac was gave me peace of mind, that I might be able to eat at the Inn afterall!

My boyfriend an I arrived at the inn to delightful champagne and chocolates in our room. We we went to the dining area for Social Hour, the Innkeepers addressed us by name before bringing to our table a special dish of hummus (so, dairy free) and gluten free crackers. Later that night, the Innkeeper pointed out to me the dessert which wouldn't treat me badly. For breakfast, I could eat hard boiled eggs and cut fruit from their bountiful buffet--the highlight there, definitely, was the incredible fresh squeezed orange juice!!

Everything was delicious, but the real treat was feeling so taken care of. When you have to be so careful what you eat, traveling can be tricky business. Nothing makes me feel more wonderful than when someone feeds me safely.

Beyond the food, the accommodations were comfortable and beautiful, the Innkeepers helpful, the location convenient and the other other guests friendly!

The St. Francis folks set us up at Harbor 26. The place was wonderful. It was clean and comfortable with a wonderful view of the harbor below our back deck. The St. Francis folks treated us like royalty, taking us on a ghost tour,a sailboat cruise into the Atlantic and a tour of downtown hot spots. We really enjoyed ourselves. We went to the B&B for social hour for drinks and a wonderful tiramasu dessert. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend the St. Francis Inn to anyone wanting to visit the oldest city in the United States.

We had a marvelous time in St. Augustine, FL. We stayed a week at Harbor 26. The sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. The condo was immaculate. The local resturants were fabulous. We went to the St. Francis Inn for social hour, including drinks and dessert. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the area and went above and beyond in booking a fun filled week for us, including a ghost tour and a cruise on the Schooner Freedom to name a few. Everything is very close to the Inn. I would highly reccomend this establishment.

  • Liked — The friendliness of the staff!
  • Disliked — there was nothing we didn't like.

Very friendly staff, awesome atmosphere. The breakfast was incredible. Rooms were very romantic and well decorated, and you get a complimentary bottle of sherry. Within walking distance to excellent dining.
