“WOWED by the history and IMPRESSED by the staff, Great Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

I have been in Florida 25+ years and this was only the second time to the Fort. At times you are just in awe of the significance of the Castillo. Since this is the 500 year celebration of Ponce De Leon and the 450th anniversary of St. Augustine, this place is finally getting its due. From the time we stepped up and bought tickets till we exited it was very enjoyable. Ranger on duty was great with our small group.

Make this a must see stop on your vacation...

“What a Fort !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Castillo de San Marcos was truly amazing being built in 1672. It is very well maintained and the rangers were very helpful and knowledgeable. Grant was exceptional host.

“A piece of history you shoul visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

During summer dress light and ready to sweat, wear hiking shoes or comfortable ones, prepare to enter rooms with low light, high humidity and oxygenation levels low, people this is not an amusement park it was a military installation building started in 1672, 107 years after the city's founding by Spanish Admiral and conquistador Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, when Florida was part of the Spanish Empire, so in their mind they had only one goal, reliable, secure, defensible and strategic, comfy was not in their goals!!! they have musket and cannon firings during the weakens and it will be weather permitting, yup right as Invasions happened weather permitting too!!! well try not to miss it, follow the rules and don't you ever dare to put your foot or your but on the wall or steps they are made of a stone called coquina, Spanish for "small shells", made of ancient shells that have bonded together to form a type of stone similar to limestone, so don’t pick at the fragile walls of the fort, Remember: the impacts you create today are seen by your children tomorrow.

“Great Piece of History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

This National Park is a must see. There are no narrated tours so you are on your own but there is a theater showing video about the site. There are also park employees, some in authentic costume, to answer questions. There is little shade in hot , sunny weather so be prepared. There are stairs to climb to the top of the fort and no railing on the edge but still a great view and on weekends, they shoot the cannon. If you are a history buff, this is certainly worth the admission.

“Good history”

I would recommend doing a ranger talk . There is a lot to learn here. On the weekends they do a canon firing demonstration.
