El Potrillio is a small Mexican restaurant in a small town in the Panhandle of FL. It is on highway 90, the only road through town and you'll miss the restaurant the first time by. The décor is minimal, and must seat about 40 in open seating, though there is a bar area through and archway. One waitress working the tables. Patrons are locals and escapees from Interstate 10. We had the combination meal for $6.99 each. This ta soft chicken taco, a tamale with light sauce, rice and beans. We were told the tamales were made in house.
My beloved spouse is from Mexico City and we spend lots of time in that country, but seldom find the simple good food that is there upon returning home. This was an exception. The tamale was the best of my life. You don't find tamales on the menu in most Mexican restaurants. The sauce which was drizzled on it was extraordinary. The Taco was authentic and good. Now the rice and beans. In most US based Mexican restaurants the rice is tasteless as are the beans. Not in this case. The rice of delicious Mexican rice and the beans perfect. With this we had Negro Modello beer. Don't expect white tablecloths and crystal. Do expect good food.
