“Issues, always issues”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2011

We have been going here off and on for over 8 years, just because it is the only on-site waterfront restaurant with entertainment that offers so many open hours, so sometimes it's the only choice without driving. Virtually every time there has been some problem:
uncuttably tough pizza crust, "home-made" pizza still on the cardboard circle. a reservation given away, a "Don't tell ME..." remark from the manager, a 2 hour wait for food, members of the party served at different times, dirt, being told by a server not to order a menu item, etc. Last straw: Last week we smelled a horrid stench of spoiled fish hitting fryer fat!!!!!! So last time we were there it was drinks only; it's drinks only from now on!!!! Not that the drinks are a great value. And no, the bartender will probably never remember your name or your regular order. Too much turnover.

“Worth avoiding for locals and visitors”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

As a newer seasonal home owner (snow bird) in Burnt Store Marina, I was very hopeful that this local establishment would be a hit. With ownership interests located in Chicago, I had even higher expectations that this restaurant would excel.

I sat at the bar (indoors), with a spectacular view of the marina's harbor, and ordered their mussels, scampi style. First, the mussels must have been very poorly stored - they were skinny, stringy and thoroughly dehydrated, rather than plump and juicy. Perhaps too long in the freezer without being properly wrapped? The portion size was certainly adequate, but not with the shrunken contents. The sauce bore little resemblance to scampi style - there were a lot more red pepper flakes than there were pieces of garlic, and there was absolutely no perception of wine. The excess of red pepper disguised whatever other flavoring ingredients may have been added.

Service at the bar was spotty, at best. To say that the bartender was inattentive doesn't adequately describe the situation, as the establishment's manager seemed fixated on keeping the wait and service staff involved in casual (not work related) conversation, to the point that each of the eight or nine bar patrons all had to wait to have their drinks refilled, only after making efforts to attract an employees attention.

There are no other bar, and only one other food, options within the Marina community - and one must drive about 10 miles in any direction to find any alternatives. I could not argue if someone accused Porto Bello's management of abusing their monopolistic status - to their own detriment.

One additional observation. On several nights, there are themed buffets offered - one Pizza & Pasta, the other Mexican. Although I have not tried the food from either of them, I can say that the selections and variety are extremely spartan. There are so few items to choose from, that the frequency of return customers may be extremely meager.

“Great Food, Great Location, Good Prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

This restaurant is inside of Burnt Store Marina, off burnt store road. Its right on the water, so you have an incredible view, and its very large so it can accomodate a lot of people. The food is very good. I would recommend the Calamari for an appetizer, and for entree's I would recommend the meatloaf, the chicken tortellini, or their pizza. The meatloaf is not what you're thinking. Its not ketchup and breadcrumbs meatloaf, its a huge portion with a marsala type sauce and mushrooms, and mashed redskins. Delicious. Their prices are very reasonable, and the portions are very hearty. You will be taking some home with you, guaranteed. The drink prices are also very reasonable, which is a nice surprise considering the way other marina restaurants charge. I strongly recommend this restaurant over many of the ones ranked higher. It also has a huge wine list, and bar, as well as live entertainment almost every night.

“We like view & open deck”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2010

We enjoyed the outdoor bar and felt drink prices the norm where other places with simular mileu we have felt really ripped off by (7&8$ beers). We had several meals pizza was really good and a value. Fish was good and so was spaghetti. Did not get prime rib as no rare avail. I bet in season this place rocks. We went at very slow time.

“Worst Private Marina Restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2010

I could not believe what was placed in front of me!
I ordered Gnocchi w/ beef tips & mushrooms. Gnocchi is a light potato dumpling.
What I got was something that resembled large rubbery grubs in a dark sauce.
The "meat" tasted like freeze dried cubes of mystery meat & canned mushrooms.
I was too embarassed to complain in front of my guest.I was also wondering why the
server would even present the dish!
Awlful, just awlful!
