“MD crabs in FL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

I'm from crab heaven on the eastern shore of MD. Finding steamed crabs in FL is like finding conch in MD. But it happened at Peace River Seafood. If you're from the mid-Atlantic area, where they know how to cook crabs, and find yourself on the west coast of FL, fear not. The crabs are caught within walking distance of the restaurant, steamed, and covered in Old Bay. Don't miss it.

“Shrimp Platter - Disappointment; Crabs just OK”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

My husband had a craving for crabs tonight, so he went to Peace River Seafood for take-out.
This was our first experience.

Maybe the restaurant experience is better for the ambience, but we won't get take-out there anymore. We were so highly disapppointed that I doubt we'll make the trip back to eat in the restaurant.

My husband brought home what was supposed to be a 1/2 lb shrimp 'platter' for me. The shrimp was fried. Maybe it's just me, but when I think fried seafood, I think french fries and coleslaw are the obvious sides. When I opened the box, I saw a handful of shrimp, one boiled potato, and part of an ear of corn. Really? If I was ordering a steampot, yeah, this might make sense. So I ate my handful of shrimp and tossed out the rest.

I'm also pretty sure it was much less then 1/2 lb. There were 8 shrimp total. They weren't colossal. My husband is in the seafood business, so he can rattle off shrimp counts per lb in his sleep. This wasn't a 1/2 lb (maybe the potato and corn made up the difference!)

My husband had the crabs. Again, he's in the seafood business. And he's also from Maryland. The crabs were good quality for an "all you can eat" variety. But they weren't worth what he paid.

“The Best In Season Seafood In The Area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Peace River Seafood is an interesting place indeed. They actually have a fishing fleet and the restaurant was something of an afterthought to them that's blossomed into an area attraction. It's located several miles out of town so definitely harder to find especially for out of towners. It's located in an old rambling Cracker Style home and is more reminiscent of an old fashioned road house. That gives it an Old Florida charm that has all but disappeared in this area. As they also own a fishing fleet, the offerings are mainly limited to what's in season in the area. They close very early at night and don't take reservations. This can definitely be a problem so be sure to get there well in advance of the closing time. They may or may not have all the listed menu items and if they run out, they simply close. What they do have though is the best and freshest you'll ever find. Because much of it is eaten with your hands, don't dress up. This is a cargo shorts and Tee or fishing shirt type of place. The waitress will bring a stack of news papers to spread on the table and a metal pail to put all the scraps into.
The large assortment of very happy cats outside take it from there.
The blue crab is perfect as is the stone crab and both are fun as well as messy. The shrimp gumbo is my favorite after some blue crabs as an appetizer. PETA would be horrified to see everyone sitting around ripping the blue crabs apart with their hands or using the little mallets to break open the stone crabs. Oh Well! It's really a great place and only the only problem is the limited hours.

“Freshest seafood around”

Best grouper fish sandwich you will ever eat. It is huge, so if you are not very hungry split it. All you can eat crabs and fresh shrimp. $10 for a dozen oysters!
