Punta Gorda was a lot of fun. Fisherman's Village is a terrific place to stay. Having a 6 year old boy and a 4 year old boy with us, we were a little concerned that noise from the shops below would be a problem at night, but all the shops closed at 6PM. The only things that remained open were the restaurants (most notably Harpoon Harry's) so there was some traffic noise, but it was minimal. We were on the east side of the pier, so our balcony overlooked the marina in Charlotte Harbor. Kingfisher boats has cruises from the marina - we took one to Cayo Costa - a beautiful beach about 2 hours away. The only thing we didn't like on the whole trip was that while we were reminded to "bring your sunscreen" to Cayo Costa (very good advice), no one told us to "bring our bugspray" - there is about a 50 foot walk from where you are left off to the beach - and we were attacked by small black biting insects. If you go with kids, be sure to spend some time at Gilchrist Park. It is fun, clean, and free.
