Recently found Nino's in the shopping plaza hard by the Turnpike, off PSL Blvd. A shame I missed their first four years here!
The restaurant was happily full on a Thursday evening - unfortunately for the restaurant a typical PSL one-turn crowd, but all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I'm always skeptical about these places, but man, was I wrong about this place!
We were promptly greeted and seated after a short wait. Our waiter was a energetic chap, well-versed in the offerings and specials. He proved to a affable and able server throughout our meal.
The restaurant is run by a family from Brooklyn with passion and soul. I briefly spoke with the husband and wife owner team - they were super nice folks and made us feel like we were in their home - no easy trick these days. Other family members, cousins and siblings, were also present and charming.
The food was ridiculously good. We had a grouper special prepared perfectly and a chicken saltimbocca that was sublime. The sauces were simply among the best I have ever tasted - anywhere. Not that this is a qualifier, but we both grew up in NYC and have dined in many an Italian restaurant in our day throughout the five boroughs and beyond, including memorable meals in Italy. Portions were ample and served with a killer garlic bread/roll. The owner was manning the pizza oven which stayed busy and looked great - can't wait to return just for pizza. For desert, we had a piece of their off-the-charts cheesecake which we found to be superb: crumbly, just sweet enough, and oh-so rich - made on the premises. An expresso completed one of the finest restaurant meals we have ever had in FL in our 23 years here.
Other reviewers said it well already: "excellent", "you've got to try it". I really don't like giving 5 full stars, but for the excellent service, insanely good food, and the warmth and passion of the staff and owners, we have no alternative: 5 stars.
