We are Wyndham owners and this was our first time at this resort. We booked our stay 6 months in advance and requested ocean front. When we arrived we were told there were no ocean front rooms available and that we had been assigned to the next best available. During our conversation she showed us a resort map so we were able to see the limited number of 1 bedroom ocean front units and that the second building was all 2 bedroom ocean front units. Even though I was not happy that we did not get the ocean front view as requested the front desk staff remained friendly and polite. After you check in you are directed to another counter (concierge) where she offers you a free gift and meal for scheduling a 1 hour information meeting and she also issues you a parking pass for the 3 story parking garage that requires a code. Our room 7712 was a corner 1 bedroom plus unit. It had a second bathroom and a wrap around balcony so we had a partial view of the ocean and of the Pompano area. Our room was clean and spacious but the bathrooms were in need of updating. The master bathroom had an obvious repair in the ceiling but it had not been repainted, the shower tiles/grout looked very dated and in need of replacement/repair or at least a deep cleaning, poor water pressure in the shower and the bathroom exhaust fan/light was very loud. The other bathroom was in better condition but had the same issues with the tile/grout. The pool areas were nice and if you got out there before 10am you could easily get lounge chairs. There were only 6 tables with umbrellas by the pool closest to the tiki bar/beach but we always got out around 9:00am and were able to get one. We didn’t spend any time lounging on the beach because you had to pay for the lounge chairs, umbrellas and cabanas so we just lounged by the pool and occasionally went out to play in the ocean. The resort offers daily activities for adults and children but the only one we participated in was the wine social and there was only one other couple that participated. It was $8 a person and they had an inexpensive chardonnay and cabernet with cheese and crackers. We had several glasses of wine and great conversation with the other couple who attended. We also attended the owners update meeting and enjoyed a free breakfast and lunch and at the end chose the Jungle Queen Riverboat tour as our free gift. Our appointment was at 9am but we had so many questions and decided to upgrade our ownership that we were there longer than the standard 1 hour. This was by far the best information meeting since we joined 4 years ago. Our sales agent, Simone, was wonderful. She listened and answered all our questions without being pushy and annoying. After we were done with the meeting we went down to the concierge to get the Jungle Queen Riverboat tour scheduled and she gave us a small backpack that included several can cozies, a cold/warm gel pack and several packets with miscellaneous hygiene products. There is a small shopping center directly across the street that has a convenience store, souvenir shop, Stingers restaurant & bar, dry cleaner & laundry, hair salon and a lady’s clothing store. There is a Publix grocery store about a 5 minute drive towards Ft. Lauderdale by the Sea on A1A. There are several other shopping centers and restaurants within a short drive. I recommend getting a rental car to fully enjoy all the area has to offer. We had breakfast at the Beachcomber next door to Royal Vista and it was just ok. Stingers across the street had better food and service (breakfast, lunch & dinner). We had breakfast and dinner (grilled salmon and mahi) at Stingers and both were very good. Stingers has a small location at Royal Vista, open 12pm – 4pm, that offers ice cream, drinks, snacks, pizza (delivered from across the street) deli sandwiches, grilled chicken & mahi sandwiches and burgers. We had the grilled mahi and chicken sandwiches and they were very good. The pool/beach towels arrangement is the same as most Wyndham resorts. You get cards that you exchange for towels and you have to turn in one or the other so that you do not get charged when you check out. There were a couple days that towels were not available until late in the afternoon so I would suggest keeping your towels until they have fresh ones available. There is no maid service, unless you are a VIP member, but you can exchange your used bath linens, request extra trash bags or laundry soap by calling the front desk. We checked out on Saturday, August 25th but after we got to the airport and checked in our flight was cancelled due to the approaching weather (TS Isaac). We immediately called Wyndham and luckily they had cancellations so we were able to book another room using our points. It was supposed to be for one night but turned into two because of the storm. The room we got this time was also a corner unit, room 7703. We loved this room. The view was what we had originally requested, ocean front, and had a wrap around balcony and a better floor layout. This room had the same furnishings but was slightly larger because of the better layout. The bathrooms were in slightly better condition and had separate switches for the light and exhaust fan. The master bathroom was larger and had a glass enclosed shower. The second bathroom was also larger and the washer and dryer are located next to second bathroom instead of in the bedroom. The one annoying thing in the master bathroom was the toilet paper roll holder didn’t match up to the holder on the wall so the toilet paper roll would fall off unless you were holding it. We also discovered the windows and sliding glass doors are not sealed very well. Water came in the windows and sliding glass doors. The worst was in the bedroom where the carpet by the sliding door got soaked and there was not much we could do to stop it. The other areas we put down towels to keep it from running through the unit. I’m sure we had this problem because of the extremely strong winds. Luckily we always bring earplugs so sleeping was not a problem during the storm. During our entire stay the staff was always friendly and polite. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again.
Room Tip: Corner units have a larger balcony. Book as far out as possible to get ocean front view.
