“Sands Harbor is a little piece of paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

Recently, my family and I stayed at Sands Harbor Hotel and Marina in Pompano Beach, FL. We were treated like royalty from the moment we entered the hotel through the entire stay! My husband and I took our daughter and her boyfriend with us for their spring break getaway and our older daughter, along with her husband and our 7 month old grandson joined us. Sitting on the balcony overlooking the intercoastal waterway watching the boats go by and looking over at the ocean were so relaxing! The patio restaurant had wonderful foods and excellent drinks ( I highly recommend the rum runners!) and Joe's restaurant downstairs had some of the best fresh seafood I have ever eaten. Housekeeping was able to clean our rooms around our schedule and the front desk staff were so courteous and friendly when helping us to find things to do and attractions to see. When we let them know our grandson would be coming, we were offered the option of moving to a larger room and the crib was placed in the room within hours of us telling the staff that he would be arriving the next morning! The rooms are clean, the price is reasonable and the staff is wonderful! We stayed in an efficiency room and also had the attached room and it was so convenient that our family could be together! Many hours were spent on the balcony and even my grandson enjoyed the sights that we were afforded. The pool was heated and the pool area was clean and were enjoyed by my family. The beach is a just a short walk from the hotel, as well as places to purchase meals, groceries, homemade ice cream, souvenirs and any other item you may need during your stay. We were able to rent a boat at the marina to further explore the intercoastal and could even take a lighthouse tour right from the hotel! The Sands offers package deals which are reasonably priced for any budget! We have visited the Sands many times before this visit, including during the annual Seafood Festival and will continue to do so. Whether you stay here before going out or returning from a cruise or for your entire vacation, activity surrounding the Sands is geared towards all ages no matter what time of year you visit! I highly recommend this resort!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sands for a long weekend. We attended the NFL Pro Bowl in Miami but were very glad we opted to stay at this hotel. We had a wonderful room with an excellent view of both the inter-coastal waterway and the ocean. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was both friendly and professional. The hotel has a patio bar and restaurant for a more laid back dining experience and also an indoor restaurant and bar that is more formal. The atmosphere is awesome with boats coming and going and even stopping by for a drink or bite to eat. The hotel has a nice outdoor pool for swimming. The beach is a five minute walk away with a picturesque fishing pier and a cute playground also very nearby. We also appreciated a nearby Publix for snacks and drinks. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely be back for another stay (hopefully in the near future!).

We can't wait to return this March. The hotel was very well taken care of for an older property, and the rates were very fair for a room with such an amazing view. We enjoyed being able to walk to the beach and to shopping, and liked the fact that the hotel is located in a quieter area where we could relax without all the hubbub we have experienced in hotels in ft. lauderdale. The food at the patio bar was good and reasonably priced for lunch, and you cannot beat the seafood at Joe's Grille also located in the hotel. Both restaurants had very friendly staff willing to go "the extra mile" to make our trip special. Shame we had to leave after only a week to return to NH. We are anxiously awaiting our return this March, maybe for a longer time?!

We stayed at the Sands Harbor hotel in May for a long weekend. We had a very enjoyable stay and loved the view from the veranda of the penthouse. We could look one direction and see the ocean and right below our room was the intercoastal where we could watch the boats cruising. The penthouse was huge and was clean, although we really didn't spend much time in our room but rather sitting outside enjoying the view. It was nice to have a refrigerator in our room so we could have coffee and drinks in our room rather than having to always go out.

The staff at the hotel was very friendly and accomodating. The food and drinks (love those rum runners) were very good at the patio bar. The beach was within a short walking distance from the hotel. There was also music by the pool and patio bar during the afternoon that gave the 'tropical flair" of being on vacation.

We would definitely bring the family for a stay at the Sands Harbor Hotel.

While not the Marriot we enjoy the intracoastal calm, and the closeness to the beach. Though we live only 45 mins. away, it's like taking a real vacation. The kids can go to the beach while we relax at the Tikki Bar and watch the boats go by. The rooms are spacious with great views and child friendly. We've always enjoyed the friendly service and the fact that we don't have to leave the grounds to dine.

We booked a room at this Resort since we were going to be at a dive shop a couple of doors down. It was a terrible mistake. The room rate was not priced much lower than some of the really nice properties on the beach. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, it is a far cry from even being clean. It was worn and dirty. Their were roaches in the room and roach parts on the BED! The balcony door looked like it had been broken into and was broken. Do not stay here unless they do a massive renovation.

What can we say...first of all...we stay here ALL the time...everytime we come to Florida...this place is awesome...forget about the Marriott on the Beach...or any other hotel on the beach...this is the place for you...the price is right and you cannot foret it's personal service...actually they learn your name, how nice.

A 3 minute walk to the beach and 1 minute walk to quaint little beach shops, an ice cream parlor, restaurants (one of which is voted THE best in Broward County) and cute little karaoke bars within 1 minute of walking distance just enhances this place.

By the way...Houston's Restaurant is just an 8 minute romantic walk over the intracoastal waterway to the best steak you EVER had...you can actually smell the steak cooking while sitting at the SANDS PATIO BAR having a drink before your walk.

Which...let's talk about drinks...THEIR Long Island Iced Tea..."FORGET ABOU IT"....AND you will forget about everything....the best drink you will ever have is made at the Sands Patio Bar.

Their chicken wings...can't beat 'em...REALLY ... We feel bad for people who have never eaten them. Be sure to get X-tra sauce.

If you are a guest there and stay in one of thier rooms they offer a little kitchen-ette...so obviously...you can keep your drinks really cold and cook a little on the side...like a grilled chese sandwich and tomato soup that you bought from the PUBLIX grocery store that is walking distance from the SANDS RESORT so that you don't have to pay a fortune for a breakfast or lunch.

You can make toast for breakfast and soup for lunch and splurge at dinner at JOES RIVERFRONT CAFE ...on location... at the SANDS!!!!! Be sure to drink up with their strawberry daquiris that they offer. JOE'S offers a full line of locally fresh caught seafood and is prepared gourmet style and is on location right there at the SANDS! AWESOME! Joe and Erica are FIRST CLASS. Their on-sight restaurant is such a plus. They offer outdoor dining or indoor dining to meet all the needs of everyone's interests. There's a cute little bar before you get into the restaurant and is run by Brian the bartender who has been there for ages...that's what we mean about this place...everyone stays...
They like to work there...Brian makes fantastic drinks!!!!!!!! No skimping!!!

It's so fun to watch the boats go in and out of the marina and up and down the intracoastal waterway. Across the intracoastal waterway are magnificant views of mansions that you can gaze at and dream about owning one of them.......maybe...just maybe... it's nice to dream...
that's why we go on vacation!!!!

The swimming pool at the SANDS is large and heated. We saw kids have so much fun playing. Even adults could enjoy the pool pleasures. The pools is perfect, with many lounge chairs around it for comfort.

The daytime, poolside entertainment was fantastic...Jimmy Buffet style...MARGARITAVILLE...ANYONE!!!!!! That guitar player was awesome and got everyone involved and singing...(sorry we were out of key!!!) he was great...not to mention good-lookin, too!!!!!!!!!(female half, here)...

The SANDS HARBOR BEACH AND MARINA is so great.

I (the female here) lived in Pompano Beach for 20 years and came here all the time for the entertainment on weeknights AND on weekends, too. It was my place. I have moved away...back to Pennsylvania. I still love the place. And everytime I go back the staff still know me by name...that's what's great...the staff...they don't turnover...(must be the SAND'S great benefit package)...and all my friends from when I lived in Florida still go there.

OK...do they need to fix a few things from after the hurricanes...please note (plural)...hurricane"S."..Sure...the place was destroyed...they did not know what to do...but this all takes time...Hang in there and ENJOY their prices and what they have there on their property to offer!!!! They went through some rough times and are still there...stronger than ever. They are so much fun there.

This place is awesome.

Want to watch the AIR AND SEA SHOW?????? (Every May)...Book an OCEAN FRONT ROOM!!!! LOCALS...GET YOUR ROOMS NOW!!!

This place is an awesome place for locals to get away for the weekend. AND...we almost forgot...the POMPANO BEACH FISHING RODEO!!!!!!! Beter get your room now for 2009!!!!!!

If you have a problem with your room...call Carl...the best man you will ever encounter. Fix it??? UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!! You will get new if he can't fix it!!!!

REALLY....THE SANDS HARBOR BEACH AND MARINA is the best place EVER!!!!!!!

  • Liked — friendly staff, patio bar and on-site gourmet restaurant
  • Disliked — a bit out dated but they are working on updating facilities after the hurricanes hit them hard
