Stayed at the Lacosta last week of June, 2011 in a 2 bedroom 2 batch unit facing the pool. I could tell it was an older part of LaCosta, but fairly well maintained. AC worked great. Leaky toilet. Still using the old "metal key" system for locks. Furnishings were adequate, appliances were older, but clean. Staff was cordial.
Best part of Lacosta is its proximity to the ocean. Just a 100-150 yards from the water. Pompano beach is famous for sea turtle nesting areas, you may be able to spot one during the spring and summer months. The water was very warm, about 85 degrees, waves were small. Great place for a family with young kids, not so great for older kids wanting to surf. Beach was adequately maintained.
The grounds of Lacosta had been recently redone according to a frequent guest and board member of the association I spoke to. Most everything was neat, clean and new. The resort offered 3 pools (one heated) two hot tubs and a small excercise room. The resort never seemed crowded, even though the parking lot was nearly full. Parking is free by the way.
Biggest negative (for me) was the WIFI. Even though it was free throughout the resort, reception was very weak with frequent disconnections. Most of my vacations are working vacations, so this was troublesome. I spoke to the clerk, he called the maintenance guy and I was told they wouldn't look into it unless there were 5 or more complaints! So, I found a strong signal spot (outside near the pool) and conducted my business early AM before others logged on and slowed the system.
As far as the TIKI bar a couple of resorts away, it's grossly overrated. Went there during happy hour, had 4 burgers, 4 drinks and it came to over $65. Food was comparable to and fast food joint. One trip was enough, didn't seem roudy or loud at all, even at night.
Anyway, I'd definitely stay there again, being so close to the ocean was great. the resort was quiet and peaceful. Great Vacation!
