We were there in December 2012 - January 2013.
This is the best place to go with a family and we enjoy it so much that we go back every year.
The units are very clean and so is all the property. There are three heated pools and one that is not (the one closest to the beach). There are a lot of different types of unit and they all have access to a free Wi-Fi. Some units have a washer and dryer and some do not, but there are three washer/dryer available in the north cabana building and you can use those for free. There is also two Jacuzzi on the property and three tennis court are available free of charge. There is also a fitness center on the site, but it should be upgraded a little.
By the way, the Cabana pool is the less windy place so it is a good choice when the weather is colder.
There are a few differences from last year. The lobby is still located in the north building but now the "game room" is also in this building. The south office building was closed and it was mentioned that it would be a new "SPA" in a near future. The game room is a little less inviting but they still have a Wii with a lot of games and they also have a good selection of board games, but that's about it. They still rent old DVD movies (2$). There is also a new "Publix" grocery store that is now open on Atlantic Blvd just over the draw bridge. You still need a car to get there but it is nice to have a good grocery store nearby.
One of the best things about this place is the staff. They really do their best to make your vacation a great one. At the front desk you are always greeted with a smile (Vinette, Zechia, Joe, Pauline, etc). The activity staff (Eddy, Kenny, Omare) is great. They really make you feel at home.
There are all so nice and so helpful. I must say that everyone working there really knows what customer service mean. They go out of their way to satisfy everybody and they are all great at their job.
The resort provides beach towels, but you might have a little trouble if you want to exchange those everyday since they don't always have some. But since you have access to a washer/dryer it might be a better idea to clean them yourself. Be advice that they now charge for things like laundry detergent, dishwasher, toilet paper if you need more that the quantity that was provided in the unit when you checked-in.
You can rent a chair and an umbrella at the beach but the beach is so great you really don’t need too. Most of the people we saw just used their towel directly on the sand like we did. The ocean is great too. There is a medium drop when you enter the water (about 2 feet) but when you pass that you only have water to your knees and after that if is very shallow for a while. So the kids can go very far without you worrying about them. On the windy days the waves were really cool but did not seems too dangerous so this is a wonderful place to play with kids.
By the way, you can borrow a lot of things from the game room (Surfboard, sand toys, beach chairs (NEW!), football, etc...). You just have to sign in the register and bring back everything as soon as you are done with it. You won't be charge a dime, but please do not bring this stuff to your room, bring it back to the game room so other people could use it.
Finally, they also organize a lot of activities (Bingo, Karaoke, etc...) and this is fun for all the family. So get in the mood and you will have a great time at Sea Gardens.
I must say that I noticed a couple of minor negative points this year and I reported them to Wyndham so I hope they will address them. Here they are:
1) This year we noticed that a lot of chairs around the pools were reserved early by guests that put their towels on it and leave, even if it is not allowed. Often those chairs stay empty for hours and other guests that are around the pool have no chair to seat.
2) You can exchange your beach towel but they often run out of them because people do not return the used ones and leave them in their unit even if they don't need them anymore.
My suggestion to fix the "towel shortage" situation would be to implement a system that seems very efficient at other Wyndham resort. The beach towels should be supplied on a rack near the pools and there should be a bin there also where you could put your used towel when you leave the pool. This way, nobody brings towels to their room and the staff could easily collect dirty towel to clean them and bring them back near the pool as they are available.
And to fix the "chair reservation" situation, the staff should frequently check and remove the towels from empty chairs and throw them in the dirty bin and collect the miscellaneous item that reserved the chairs in a "lot/found" box near the pool!
There is also a lack of control in the game room where you check-out the beach chairs, beach toys, umbrella, etc... So there was one week where some guests took the beach chairs one morning and did not bring them back at the end of the day. In fact they kept the beach chair all week but the staff could not retrace them since they never signed the check-out book. There should be more control, maybe not to the extent of controlling every little thing that is borrowed, but at least to know which guest did borrow the more in-demand items (beach chairs and umbrellas).
All in all, I will definitely go back to the Sea Garden and I really recommend it to everyone. This is one of my favourite places to spend time with my family.
