“Great Location for Fort Lauderdale Fun (There's Little To Do In Pompano)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2014

Spur of the moment trip - got a great deal for 5 nights over Labor Day weekend! While Pompano Beach itself does not seem to have much to offer, this was a great home base for driving down the road to Fort Lauderdale (10-20 mins away).

We arrived on Friday the 29th. One thing I learned just prior to showing up was that the resort is valet parking only. I hadn't budgeted for it because I only found out about it after I had booked it (through reading these reviews). It was a good experience and we didn't mind the fee so much. You're billed $26.50 each day ($25 + some charge for $1.50). It was fun calling for the car when you needed it. They were always on top of things and would have your car ready in 5 mins. Have money budgeted for tipping these guys every time you take the car out and return it. Also - they don't charge you for the day you check out.

The room was an "ocean view" room. We could see the ocean but we were also facing the other tower since we were on the side. Not a big deal - we didn't care to pay the premium for an ocean front view of Pompano Beach (perhaps if it were somewhere more tropical / pretty blue water... but not this beach). Very comfortable for a smaller sized room with everything we needed. We couldn't figure out the AC until the last day - the control unit on the wall was behind a lamp shade and we never saw it until it was too late. It was a bit frosty for our liking! For those with sinus issues... I snored like crazy and drove my wife nuts! Very dry! I LOVED the shower! Very relaxing and I loved the hotel shampoo, body wash, etc.

Staff in the hotel are very friendly and as others have mentioned some make it a point to learn your name and address you by name. Great service. One night, we went down to the front desk to see if they sell ear plugs (I snore). Unfortunately, they don't sell them but the guy at the front desk offered to bring some from home the next day! We didn't take him up on his offer, but WOW! Everyone was very accommodating and wanted to go the extra mile to make you happy.

We had dinner at the resort the first night. Pretty good overall but expensive. There are many good places for less money in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. We never ate breakfast at the hotel but we'd have lunch most days at the pool which was manageable. It was a great opportunity to seek out new restaurants using TripAdvisor, Yelp, etc. There's a lot of budget money to be saved by going elsewhere.

The pools were great. It was a little busy on the weekend due to the holiday but we were very happy on Tuesday after the crowds had gone. Very relaxing. They had a volleyball net setup, water basketball hoops, a football to toss around, rafts, etc. There was another area nearby with corn hole and "big chess" setup. The pools and whirlpool were also handicap accessible which we thought was nice. They also had staff serving food and drinks around the pools (ask for a menu). Good selection of both cocktails (a good list and very tasty) and beers (domestics, imports, local craft brews, etc.).

The beach was somewhat of a letdown. We did not swim in the ocean because of how dark the water was. I attribute this to the extraordinary amount of sea grass that was always on the beach or floating in the water. There is nicer beach as you head into Fort Lauderdale for sure. Still, it's nice to stay right on the beach without the Fort Lauderdale location premium. The beach is very nice up until you get to the water and even then it's not bad. I just didn't care for all of the sea grass. They have chair and cabana rentals at the beach that can be charged to the room. The company is separate of the hotel but works with them to allow the bill to room option. Everything at the pool, restaurant, etc. is all bill to room as well without the option to pay in cash, etc. You can settle up in cash when you go to check out but everything is charged to the room beforehand. We paid $51 for a cabana and two beach chairs on one occasion. The guy who helped us was great and I wish we would have had cash on us to tip him! The hotel staff do not serve the beach area but it's a short walk back to the hotel and pool if you want to order anything. There are also some places that will deliver food to where the rental guys are setup.

All in all - good trip for a great price. Fort Lauderdale was a lot of fun and I'll be sure to post reviews of the places we ate. Enjoy!

Room Tip: No need to pay more for a room with an oceanfront or ocean view, but whatever you do... make sure yo...

We just got back from this wonderful hotel, we went for labor day weekend and the minute you get there the service is excellent from the valet to the room service. Everything is super clean and neat, At the front desk when we checked in was a very pleasant young man named Emar he was the front desk manager he was suuupeerrrr nice and very professional, we told him it was our first time at the hotel, he gave us a tour of the hotel and even walked us to our room to make sure everything was to our liking,he even gave us a complimentary breakfast for the next morning, we took our 2 kids with for the weekend and emar was great with them. I've never seen this type of customer service from any front desk manager. During the weekend we met another young man named johnny he was I believe the restaurant manager or the outside manager i'm not sure but he saw that my son didn't have any floties and he got him a pair which was really thoughtful.

All in all i would definitely go again to this Marriott!!! Keep up the good work guys!!

We stayed at this hotel for one night on the 30thof august 2014. It was a very clean modern comfortable hotel, check in was a breeze, helpful courteous staff. The only downfall was the pool which maybe a bit small for the size of the resort.
room was large comfortable clean and comfortable. shower was great very big....nice spot on the beach.
would definiately stay here again.

My family and I spent just one night there to catch a flight home the following day, but we had a GREAT experience none the less. We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel last year when they opened, and honestly they have not missed a beat!! One of the gentlemen, Izel, who works valet remembered us...How great was that!. It was good to see that he was still there providing the quality service he provided us just a year ago. Our room was very nice and spacious with an ocean view as we requested. Then there is the fantastic access to the beach! We arrived early enough to get a good 4 hours at the beach. The staff (Ray and Scott) at the beach were EXCELLENT!!! They were very friendly, great personalities and provided quality customer service. Ray went the "extra mile" and it was greatly appreciated. We would definitely recommend this hotel!

Great location, nice new property with great amenities. Food and beverage were also very good.
Went for a last getaway before school started and my two young daughters also had a great time and enjoyed the property.

Very classy entry with only valet parking, it seemed.

Modern room, nicely appointed and very showy. Loved the big shower. The bed was comfortable and enjoyed the firm pillows. Took out the down comforter, not needed in Florida summers.

The desk was nice with an ergonomic chair for comfort. Enjoyed the balcony, where every room has beach views with a table and 2 chairs.

The fridge was great to have, especially since there are no restaurants to walk to, so it was nice to have a place to store some food and drink for those snack needs.

Loved the very comfortable couch in the room.

I was in this hotel for 2 nights and both days the housekeeping staff ignored my do not disturb sign on the door. This was quite frustrating. On the second day, she knocked a few times and after I kept yelling through the door to leave me alone, she then went and called the room. This was not only annoying, but unprofessional.

They have a breakfast buffet that is actually quite good; the food was fresh and hot, except on day 2, the oatmeal was not right; possibly burned.

There is immediate beach access and the pool was nice but the hot tub was full of kids, which was annoying!

Room Tip: All rooms have beach views. There are 2 towers. Mine, the south tower, appeared to be quieter and it...
