We hit Fish Shack at 3:30, since we had had no lunch. Thank goodness. Got an appetizer of fried oysters - a tad pricey, but extremely good, and lightly fried. Mom had fried combo with cod, clams and shrimp. Shared most - all was great, esp. the clams ! I had scallops, with fries and cole slaw. THE tenderest scallops I can ever remember eating, and not only was the breading light, the oil was obviously fresh, and it was tasty, tasty, tasty ! I've had some really crappy scallops over the years, and these were just killer.
Just the kind of "local dive" I love hitting. Maybe 5 tables, and 5 or bar stools. A crowd drinking (looked like "regulars") kept people from coming in and eating at the bar. Some other reviews say the line is long at meal time - I can believe it ! Waitress couldn't have been more helpful (running her butt off, handling all tables and the bar). Some have griped about the price, but I've seen much worse food at much, much higher prices.
I highly recommend you go to the Fish Shack off-peak, so you can be eating without people staring you down to get your seat. It was the great find of our trip to the Atlantic Coast.
