“Great location-not great customer service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014 via mobile

Hotel was great . Rooms were AMAZING (esp for the $). However my experience there didnt allow me to enjoy my stay. Valet didnt fully shut my car off causing battery to die right in from of hotel entrance ( AAA came ) after that I stayed in car while he parked and it he reversed into a pole in my car ( which has sensors ). Wish management was more helpful in helping me solve my issues however they only offered me a free meal. Unfortunate.

I love staying at this hotel. We have stayed once a year for an event for the past 7 years and everything is always as expected. Since Marriott took over a few years ago it has been nicer to stay though. Staff really has it together. I like being located right on the beach, breakfast is really good and varied. Decent coffee and good valet. Rooms are surprisingly quiet.

Room Tip: Higher floor towards the beach for best view.

We had a great time, Michelle at reception and Augusto at parking made our stay really easy. Our room was clean and nice. We had plenty of space for 2 adults and 1 teenager. The included breakfast was a great start of the day ( our daughter had waffle every morning and the coffee was good and hot). Even if you could not park your own car Augusto was always there and quick.

Our check-in with Michelle went smoothly and when it came time to get the free beach blanket there was never a problem .

Thank you

not a marriot person, personally, i road tripped with a friend who is and we spent 5 days at this location. both of us are highly sensitive to allergens, and woke up sick. my friends profile has 'allergen free room' and this hotel didnt bohter paying attention, and resulted in some serious problems. the front desk was smily, but nothign happened, and i had to call houskeeping manager, who saved the day. her carefullness and detail oriented cleaning and changing of our rooms was fantastic. until two days later, when the staff FORGOT TO CLEAN OUR ROOM at all. next; the breakfasts. i took a spoonfull of blueberries for my cereal. worse than a bug,, there was an exactly shaped rubber ball (that really couldnt have fallen in by accident) that i almost chocked on, in the blueberries. if it was one of the dozens of kids who were there, and grabbed that, who knows what would have happened.
location- is its great point. i thought the beach was beautiful, much more quiet than miami, low key, and quiet. there is nice seating outside under some palms, overlooking the ocean, and they do have food service attending to you outside

the rooms had full kitchens, comfortable beds, but the 'ocean front' room that we booked was not ocean front ,, it had ocean if you peaked over the parking lot!
id say that if the price was right, i would go there. if it was similar to other places, i would think twice.....

Room Tip: if you have allergy free requests, you MUST confirm more than once. also, if you can, ask for a high...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Our family of five (parents and three teens) stayed at this property for a week during spring break. Overall, this is a great property and one of the few large chain hotels in the area. We had a great stay and will definitely stay again but there a few things that are useful to know before booking.

First, the hotel was not built as a Residence Inn ... Marriott bought an ld hotel and renovated it ... so, for those of us who know and love the Residence Inn brand, this property is not exactly as expected. We stayed in an oceanfront 2BR, 2BA suite (the views are drop dead beautiful, both bedrooms have balconies). The suite is spacious overall but it just has an odd layout because of the "retrofit" from the prior hotel (obviously, there were two old hotel rooms combined to make one large suite( so the hallways are oddly huge, the kitchen extremely small, baths not to the usual Residence Inn standards, etc). Both bedrooms, strangely, had only queen beds and we are accustomed to our king .... it was not the most comfortable situation. Neither bedroom had a closet so you pretty much stepped over your luggage all week (another oddity caused but the hotel "retrofit"). Bathrooms were modernized but not totally ... new mirrors/granite but old showers, for example, and relatively small. Our biggest issue was with one of the bedroms and the AC vents ... again, because of the "retrofit", one side of the bed was just blasted with AC all night and no amound of fussing with the vent vanes could fix that ... it was a real sleep problem for one person in the family (me :-). Happily, the weather was cooler so the solution was to turn off the AC and sleep with window open (ocean sounds better than AC anyway)! Perhaps not all rooms have this issue but I bet all the 2BR oceanfont units have the exact problem in the north bedroom).

The Marriott central reservation system shows the property as having "pullout sofas" in the living rooms and this is NOT accurate ... if you plan on needing the sleeper sofa, you must call the hotel directly and request a block for one of the only two rooms that to have the sleeper. Otherwise, you have a regular sofa and will need to use a cot. We saw those ... you wouldn't want to sleep an adult on one. In truth, the sleeper sofa was not too great either but my 17 YO son managed with it OK. The kitchens are new and nice but very very small ... just fine for storing drinks and heating leftovers but not a place to actually cook.

As far as location, the hotel is directly on a nice stretch of very walkable and lovely beach with a a decent pool area and a hot tub. Sand volleyball courts are nearby. The Residence Inn does have a small cafe on site and the food (limited menu) was actually quite good. There is also a small concessions shop on site for snacks and other last minute necessities. I never tried the breakfast buffet but my kids thought it was very good.

One buiding to the south is a full service Marriott property with much larger and nicer facilities; however, there is no reciprocity between the two Marriott properties so Residence guests cannot use the pools, etc.; however, it is nice to have the option to dine and drink at the Marriott restaurant. One building to the north is a condo-hotel with a fun and active tiki bar ... music every day, decent food and inexpensive drinks. That was a great bonus for this Residence Inn because a car is necessary to get pretty much anywhere else. There are really no other restaurants, bars, shops ... really anything ... within easy walking distance (though Atlantic Avenue is roughly a mile ... it is doable but not more than once a day ... a car really is needed her for an extended stay.

Parking is strictly valet and is about $19/day ... not cheap these prices are to be expected at the beach. Valet service was usually quick and efficient.

Beach chairs and umbreallas are available for rent just in front of the property and, in this area, you are permitted to bring your own beach chairs (not the case everywhere in Ft. Lauderdale).

Our flight was late in the day and the property was full so we were not able to get extended checkout; however, we were offered the use of showers and amenities in the on-site spa to change before heading out. The spa looked amazing. Only while leaving did we realize that there were large steam rooms (complete with aromatherapy) in the spa free for guest use. We never heard anyone talking about them .... we would all have loved to use those facilities all week had we known they existed. They gym is quite decent for a hotel facility and open long hours (maybe even 24 - we sometimes went late at night and got in).

The staff at this property is really top-notch. During the week, I wondered several times how the hotel management has been able to recruit/retain such a service-oriented crew ... this is tough to do in South Florida. Special thanks to night auditor Cathy for her help with several issues.

We will return ... thanks for a nice vacation.

Room Tip: if you need a sleeper sofa, make sure you confirm directly with the hotel ... Marriott online and ce...

Loved the bed it had 5 pillows to choose from. The room was great. Nice with a washer in the room. Excellent breakfast. 2 steps from the beach and there was plenty of room to be yourself there. Don't know if that was because of the time of year though. But it was nice.
I dont have anything bad to say. Will definitely be coming back. Loved it here :-)
we even saw that sea turtles had been up to land to lay eggs. Staff is really helpful and nice. Hotel is not a long drive from Fort Lauderdale. We took a boat tour to see all the expensive houses. Definitely worth it and fun. So some huge yachts.

The staff is very welcoming and friendly. The front desk staff including Jeff and Argelio made restaurant suggestions and reservations for us. The free breakfasts were excellent with good menu variety and staff clean-up. The hotel is located on the beach with two pools, an exercise room and spa. The most outstanding aspect is the staff who are are very helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious. Parking is valet only due to space for $19 per day, but they get your car quickly. It is a great place and we will return.
