We found ourselves looking for a beach and/or a freedom camp and drove down the road towards Opoutere car park, signs to the beach. We discovered the walk to the beach was at least 15 mins from the car park, but decided to investigate. Lovely walk and beautiful beach to arrive to. Long sandy beach and dunes etc. we walked back round headland via river outlet, as tide was out. We had lunch at the car park and got talking to some locals who recommended a site further on, (Otama beach, incredible, read my review on that one, just amazing.) which we thought about. Having worked out the time it would take to get to the next recommended site, we decided to investigate the site we had noticed (sign in woods) on our way to the beach. We drove out and round and found this campsite, great. Access to the beach via the same forest we had walked through earlier, but halfway there. A nice sunny spot and clean facilities. (The showers were quite strange, made from corrugated iron, semi circle, and adjacent to another.) My hubby and I could talk over the walls to each other, very good showers though. We took our table and chairs back to the beach for an evening drink and read etc, came back to the site for the same before showering and a meal etc. Found the reception staff very friendly and all in all a great place to have found. (The weather obviously helped too!!)
