“Hidden gem of American History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Only found out about this from the NAS Pensacola site. Due to sequestration only open Fri-Sun. Important to watch the 11-minute video first and look at the model in the visitor's center. I was impressed with the way that the cannonballs were heated to make them more effective and skipped the water to hit ships' hulls at water level. Not really handicapped accessible due to steep ramps and steps. Tall people will have to duck on the tunnel to the water battery. The brickwork and arches are amazing. Southern occupied fort.

“Fascinating Precursor to Climbing the Lighthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

The history is fascinating, the views from various areas were beautiful the gift shop had great moderately priced kid souvenirs that were educational and fun. My granddaughter loved the lady ranger rag doll we bought her. This fort is located on the Naval Base and is maintained by the forestry service. There is a lot of history to see here and its all very interesting.

Very interesting! Our whole family enjoyed this walk through history! Even on a hot day the coolness of the fort was refreshing.

“Excellent excursion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Fort Barrancas is located on the Naval Air Station.

It's a short walk from the parking lot to the Fort.

The park rangers are very knowledgeable of the history of the Fort.

“Only open weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Due to federal budget cuts, it is only open on the weekend. Fort Pickens at Pensacola beach is still open 7 days a week.
