“Great hotel experience”

Ashton Inn and Suites

Jun 4, 2008

After reading all of the reviews here I decided to take a chance on the Asthon Inn. The price was right and the location was close to NAS where i was visiting my son.
I have to say that it was one of the most pleasant experiences i have had when staying at a hotel!
From check in to check out the staff went out of their way to accomodate us whether it was extra pillows to driving directions and recomendations for places to eat.
The hotel offered both an indoor and outdoor pool. The grounds were well kept.
I will be returning to Pensacola in the near future and I have already booked my return reservations.
I would highly recomend for anyone from singles to families if you want a clean, comfortable, and friendly place to stay, stay at the Ashton.

I stayed at this location with my family, we had 4 rooms total. Let's see where to begin....
The Sheriff keeps a deputy sitting in his car all night long in the parking lot. It seems that this neighborhood has a troubled past.
Don't use the irons unless you like rust stains on your cloths.
The room was clean as it could be, but it was clearly run down. I would say that it was nice to have a refrigerator, and have milk and snacks avilable. Although there were no sponges, dish soap or papertowels. Someone had been smoking in the room and the windows would not open so we couldn't air out the place. The hotel was full so we couldn't change rooms. There were parites going on all night long in the room above us, and a few rooms on my floor. So, all night long there were drunkos talking loudly walking up and down the halls. I do have to say when I'd pop my head out and ask them to keep it down, they were very apoligetic, and I wouldn't hear from that particular group again (until the next group would walk by). The parties did stop by 5am and I would be able to sleep then.
The last straw happened when I returned home, and my credit card was charged a no show fee at the other location on Navy Blvd. Where I never had a reservation. Although they claim to have paperwork stating I did. My travel agent booked me at the Warrington Rd location, so he (the travel agent) doesn't know how it's possible to have an additional reservarion at the second location about 1/2 mile down the road. For 2 weeks I've tried calling the General Manager. She has not taken my calls when she's in, and has not returned any of my calls. All people I've spoken to (who work at the front desk) have asked that I simply dispute the charge with my credit card company. I've seen on other sites reviews that I'm not the only person who has had this problem, so it's probably a scam they run.
I hate to leave this review on such a negitive note, so I will say that the housekeeping staff was wonderful. When my father got rust stains all over his white dress shirt when using the iron in his room, the housekeeping staff went above and beyond the call of duty took the shirt, and returned it mostly rust stain free. The housekeeping staff really do the best they can with the limited resourses they have, and do it with a smile.

My husband is a student at Corry Station, we were staying at another hotel not far from here and decided to come to the Ashton Inn & Suites because of their heated pool and private sun deck. We have been here nearly a month and are going back to the other hotel. The pool is advertised as heated but only the managers can turn it on and its freezing at night so we cannot use it. The cabinets in the kitchen has peeling paint, the window in the living area leaks and seems mildewy. Also the service isnt that great, they arent that friendly at all. Their guest dryers do not work well so you have to pay twice to dry your clothes. The chair in the living area is broken and set against the wall so it will stay up right. Overall I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. At more than $100 a night to stay here it seems they would keep things nicer. Below are some pictures...

We were leary about booking a room anywhere in Pensacola because of all the bad reviews, but finally chose the Ashton, and honestly, we were not disappointed. We travel a lot and have stayed in a lot of hotels. I would say the Ashton was WAY above average. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, wireless internet worked fine. I really liked having a kitchenette in the room.

We found the staff at the hotel to be very responsive and helpful. And very professional! We had one problem...the showerhead was missing. We called the desk, and they took care of the problem within minutes.

We would definitely stay here again. Now that I think about it, when you want to pay less than $100.00 per night, like we do, this is a very nice place.

Yup, we would stay here again. And we will.

“OK to camp out for a while”

Ashton Inn and Suites

There are two Ashton Inn & Suites within ½ mile of each other. We stayed at the Corry Station one which is slightly newer than the NAS Ashton. The NAS Ashton has smoking on the third floor, but Corry Station is all non-smoking. Both have similar rooms and an indoor pool, but Corry Station also has an outdoor pool, grills, small basketball court, and a gazebo.

We were in town for business and pleasure for a week and wanted a little more room and the convenience of a kitchenette. Our stay was a mixed bag of good experiences and minor inconveniences. The staff was very friendly and the main lobby was open, airy, and nicely decorated. When we couldn’t find a luggage cart, one of the staff members volunteered to help us to our room. However, when we got to our room we noticed a stench and realized it was probably a mixture of cigarette smoke (in a non-smoking hotel) and Lysol used to cover up the smell. The smoker had even removed the smoke detector and left it lying on the desk. We were promptly switched to another room. The staff quickly brought us extra pillows we requested. The room was in pretty good shape, except for stains on the carpet and upholstery. It wasn’t until the last day that I made the mistake of looking behind the loveseat—don’t do it. Our suite had a queen bed, loveseat with coffee table, nightstands, large corner desk, small table with two chairs, two roomy closets, ironing board, iron, hairdryer, and a kitchenette. The kitchenette had a full-size fridge, small microwave and coffee pot, and two-burner stove. There was no toaster for bagels, which we managed to grill in the small skillet. There were also two pots, and minimal dishes, bowls, flatware, and plastic glasses. There was no spatula for the skillet or sharp knives, and I didn’t ask for them because I came prepared with my own. We had to provide our own paper products and cleaning soaps. In other words, the supplies provided are very minimal, so come prepared if you plan on fixing meals.

The bed was OK, not great, but not too uncomfortable either. The towels were very small and thin. Housekeeping was a bit inconsistent, sometimes they would leave us with a dish towel and cloth, and other days we had to use one of our hand towels to dry dishes. They also left our door ajar one day, but we were lucky and didn’t lose anything. Our main complaint is that we could never get the high-speed internet in our room working (you have to bring your own Cat-5 cable by the way). I overheard that there were at least 3 rooms in our section of the building having problems, but every time we complained, they acted like it must be our fault. The hotel had wireless in the lobby, and it may extend to some of the centrally located rooms, but it didn’t do us any good. We either had to use a computer near the lobby, supplied by the hotel, or take our laptop to the lobby.

The hotel provides a “grab and go” breakfast which consists of pre-packaged pastries and muffins. There were also coffee and orange and apple juices. The location is convenient for military personnel relocating to the Navy bases, and there were a lot of military personnel staying in the hotel. The hotel has a lot of fast food restaurants and a Sonny’s BBQ close by, and a Brew Pub next door,. You’ll have to adventure out if you want to experience fine dining. This hotel didn’t have the “dark alley” in back mentioned in a review of the nearby Ashton Inn & Suites. It is located next to a busy street, but we didn’t have any problems with street noise in our room. The doors to the rooms are noisy and creaky and will slam shut if you let them, which could be a major nuisance if your neighbors aren’t considerate.

I would probably consider staying here again if I was going to be in town long enough to want the convenience of the kitchenette. If all you need is a hotel room, you can probably find a better deal elsewhere.
