“Family funeral trip to Ft Barrancas.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Groups of us arrived from all over the world (literally) for our Mothers burial next to our Father at Ft Barrancas. The hotel was full and we only managed to get two rooms. We found another room down the road plus a condo out on Perdido Key. It was spring break. The check in was flawless....quick, polite, no hassle. This hotel is 100% smoke free! The mattresses are Serta and in good shape. You get plenty of pillows and towels. The drapes are multiple tier so you can shut out all the light to sleep. It is in a quiet location in a residential area....you look into peoples back yards from the third and fourth floors. Access to rooms is easy. The rooms are very clean. There is a flat screen TV.....the channels don't match the menu for some reason. The bath's have a nice spray shower head. There is a small fridge and a microwave. In the lobby is a shop that sells snacks and foods that can be nuked. There is a full breakfast buffet. I had a biscuit with gravy and sausages along with OJ.....it was good. The wife wasn't so happy....she enjoys coffee with cream. There wasn't any cream anywhere in the hotel available at any time. There is a woman in the breakfast area that is "The Boss".....and let me tell you she is very disappointing. She will actually snatch a plate out of your hand and direct you to another pile of plates that are identical. I went directly to the manager.....she replied......"I will talk to her". No apology.....nothing. We paid $134 for 3 people with two double beds. Parking is easy. It would be a difficult hotel to find if your not familiar with Pensacola. We used a mobile application to guide us in.....worked well.

Room Tip: We had 319 and 421......they were fine.

Thank you for your review! You explained our rooms very well! The guides in the book have been changed (Thank you for letting us know!).
To address the situation with our breakfast lady, I do apologize for the way that you were treated. She is no longer the attendant for breakfast.

Thank you,

“Cozy Sleeper Sofa?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

We stayed here for a soccer tournament. If you need an extra bed, don't stay at the Holiday Inn Express (HIE) because they have suites. HIE describes the sofa bed as a "cozy sleeper sofa" but it does not give you a feeling of comfort and you cannot rest at all. No one expects much of sleeper sofas but the ones at HIE are the worst. The mattress did not have any padding and when you laid down on it, you felt all the coils. It made sleeping extremely uncomfortable.

Don't bother asking for extra padding or for a different mattress. They don't have an alternative.

I have shared our experience with Management and the response was: "guest comfort is very important to us. I have taken your comments into consideration... the mattresses have been specifically designed to please a broad range of guests' needs... I will investigate the bed situation with my team, and look into alternative options."

To be honest, I can imagine the design and comfort of the Holiday Inn Express' sleeper sofa mattress will be acceptable to any guest much less a "broad range of guests".

Go somewhere else or save the money and bring an air mattress.

The woman in the breakfast area was very nice and helpful. The quality of the food was below average.

“Beautiful hotel, bad lighting, and AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL wi-fi!!!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We've stayed here before and had the same complaints. No overhead lighting in the room, only 4 lamps with low-wattage bulbs. And the bathroom lighting is the worst; two wall sconces that give off the equivalent of candlelight. NOT good for ladies when applying make-up.

Our last stay was on the second floor and the wi-fi was really slow. This time we were on the 4th floor and it was non-existent. We had to use our smartphones as hot spots and they ate into our data, BIG TIME! We stopped a couple of other guests on our floor and asked if they were having the same issue and they were. One gentleman said he spent most of his time in the lobby or breakfast area just so he could get wi-fi and be able to conduct business on his laptop. We were there 4 days so on day 3 and 4, we did the same thing; carried our laptops to the breakfast area and did what we needed to do there, as wi-fi was great in that area.

We did take our wi-fi complaints to the front desk twice and were told they would "reset" the router. That doesn't do a thing. This hotel is 5 floors, they need a separate router for each floor but I guess they're just too cheap to pay for it.

The hotel is beautiful and very clean. Our rooms appeared to be clean (due to poor lighting, you can't really inspect it), and stocked with fresh linens, shampoo, lotion, etc. The cleaning ladies are either not friendly at all or don't speak english. Each time we said "good morning", they pretty much ignored us. The front desk staff was nice.

This hotel is centrally located, just 5 minutes to the Navy base and there are several restaurants close by (Sonny's, Ruby Tuesdays, McDonalds, Waffle House, Shrimp Basket, Wendy's, Taco Bell), as well as a Walmart. It's not the best neighborhood; I wouldn't go walking around at night and I would NOT leave valuables in my car, but by day, things seems pretty safe.

I read a previous review about cracked tiles in the lobby but that wasn't the case when we were there. The lobby tiles looked great. The breakfast wasn't very good but those cinnamon rolls are just as amazing as ever. And the breakfast hostess was the sweetest lady ever. LOVED her! The elevator is extremely slow so if you're in a hurry, take the stairs.

Room Tip: If you need wi-fi for business purposes, ask for a first floor room. Anything above the first floor...

I am pleased to know that you have decided to stay with us on more than one occasion!
Most hotels are now required to have lamps instead of overhead lighting as well as energy saving light bulbs. As far as the lighting in the bathroom goes we do have 2 wall-sconces but we also have an overhead light in each bathroom. However, the overhead light is connected to the second switch in the bathroom.
Since your stay the Wi-Fi situation has been fixed. We discovered if someone was playing Xbox or Play staion the console would take the bandwidth from 3rd and 4th floor. We have since upgraded so that gaming consoles and laptops pull from 2 different routers.
We hope you decide to stay again and witness the changed we have made from your comments!

Thank you,
Chrystale

“Review's were correct--Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

I stayed here for A-school because the barracks were full. Loved the hotel and the people that worked there. Everything was so clean, great food for breakfast and it was free. I had free internet and they had a laundry I could do my clothes. I would stay here again and would incourage all military that soesnt stay on base to stay here. I was here about 30 days and was the best thing I did to stay here instead of the other yuk hotels in this area.

Thank you for taking time to write a review for our hotel! We try to make sure all of our military guests are especially taken care of since they are away from home for such long periods of time. We like to consider ourselves the best choice for a hotel as far as amenities and safety is considered in our area.

“"Wonderful Staff"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The staff at this hotel is so wonderful. We were in for a funeral and they were so helpful and considerate of our situation.
The rooms were large and always clean and the staff was so friendly. The breakfast was hot and we enjoyed visiting with relatives in this area and made to feel welcome. Beverly was on top of the breakfast and let us stay as long as we wanted and we didnt feel rushed.
Venesha at the front desk was very helpful and so so sweet. She is a great addition to this hotel. We hope to come back and visit under different cirrcumstances.
