“Great Atmosphere, NO A/C IN AUGUST, & NO HELP”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2009

Went there for my son's wedding, we had four rooms total, our room had no a/c, they brought us a fan. They were supposed to do something for us, never did, was supposed to contact to make it good, never did. wouldn't go back.

Avoid this place like the plague. No heat, no AC, filthy rooms and a staff of minimum wage morons. This is easily the worst experince we have ever had. The rooms are no bigger than rabbit cages.

Wasn't sure where to stay other than we knew we wanted to be downtown as we prefer dt locations to the suburbs. The hotel is on the south end of Palafox which allows for a short walk to view the water. Walking the opposite way takes you to the heart of downtown. The decor of the hotel is traditional / old world. Room was a good size & the bed was comfortable. It was very quiet - maybe that was because there weren't many guests! (Although, apparently many weddings & meetings are held there.) There needs to be some maintenance - the carpet could use a cleaning & there were areas on the trim & walls that need touching up but overall it was quite clean. However, all hotels should keep on top of maintenance & ensure that everything is spotless & well cared for. There is a wine bar on location - it was also very quiet in there but the decor is appealing (more contemporary than the hotel) - that is also where they serve a limited complimentary breakfast. If the weather is good there is a lovely courtyard to enjoy. All staff were very friendly & accommodating (originally planned to book online - then decided to call & ended up getting a better rate). The negative is that downtown Pensacola is void of activity - many shops & restaurants are closed. Had lunch at the Jordan Valley Cafe a few blocks up Palafox (super casual place - you order at the counter). It took an extremely long time to receive our food - so much so that we were preparing ourselves to be disappointed in the food - however, it was wonderful. I wish they were in my neighborhood! Tried the Fish House for dinner one evening - it is close to the hotel (supposedly the best restaurant in Pensacola) - it was quite good - but I wouldn't rate it exceptional. We preferred the Global Grill (also right downtown on Palafox) - ate there two evenings.

This inn has only 15 rooms and is located right off of downtown. There aren't a lot of other services like you get at a bigger hotel. No pool, dining, internet. But if you want a nice room in a quiet part of town, this is the place. There is a wall of celebrity pictures from those who have stayed there. The place is actually better known for its meeting space.

You can walk to many downtown attractions like pubs, restaurants, art galleries, and more. Parking is okay, but if an event is going on, like a wedding reception, it can get a little crowded. Pretty close to the water. Kind of a best kept secret.

  • Liked — Quiet and out of the way
  • Disliked — Not many amenities like pool, dining, etc.

I stayed two nights in the Juan Gonzalez room. Very quiet with nice beds. Carpet was a little stained. Not all rooms have high ceilings, mine was slanted. The staff was heplful and friendly. Breakfast was included. Many pictures on the walls of the lobby of celebs who have stayed there(all from the 70's and 80's). Overall I would recommend this place For a short stay if you want to try something different. Located one block from The Fish House which is the best seafood place in Pensacola.

New World is a quaint, historical and well placed Hotel. I would recommend it if you need to stay downtown. However, we did have an issue with our room. There was no air conditioning when we arrived at 5:30 p.m. and the hotel staff knew of the issue at 3:30. She made no call to the maintenance person until we complained. Then the first reaction was to try to find us a room in another hotel (we declined the motel 8). Then the maintenance person came, and just spun the fan and considered it fixed. they would not give us the unoccupied room across the hall. Then we returned and there was no power because the maintenance man left the breaker off. At that point tthey finally gave us the room (after 8:00 p.m.) This completely ruined our arrival plans. We noted a temporary A/C in the room the next day.

Great place, but the staff is a bit dizzy. When we asked another desk clerk directions to the Navy Air Museum she never heard of it and gave us a small city map. She was too busy cruising the web so I got her to google the museum and suggested she go to it herself someday.
