Don't let the all bad reviews be misleading. The Casa Loma was not filthy, I didn't get bitten by bed bugs, the staff was not rude.
I guess some people will complain about everything.
It's not a four star hotel and they don't claim to be.
What the Casa Loma is is a nice, clean, cheap (at least in October it was, $39 a night) place to stay. It might be 40+ years old and showing some wear and tear but if you want the mom & pop feel of old Florida, this place will do just fine.
I stayed there Oct. 19 - 22 on a motorcycle trip and I did not want to leave.
The place doesn't look like much from the outside but the rooms have been updated over the years.
Upon entering the room I noticed that it was very clean and neat and the beds appeared to be realitively new and were quite comfortable pillow top mattresses.
I just had a standard double queen unit so I can't comment on the other units.
I was on the east end of the motel and with the way the motel is curved the ends of the building are very close to beach, I couldn't believe how close to the water I was.
My wife and I usually stay in one of the high rise condos 8 plus Floor up and yes you do have a good view, but being so close to the water was great.
It is true the the water temp in shower is not constant, it can but doesn't always go from warm to scalding to freezing without notice. And you can hear the toilets flush every time your neighbors use the bathroom. But these were minor issues as I was there to spend all day on the beach.
As much as we like to stay in condos, it was nice to not be surrounded by concrete buildings.
On the east side of the motel is a row of very nice houses and to the west is about a half mile of open beach.
The view from the balcony was great. The lush landscaping in the courtyard was very pretty and well maintained.
I could go on and on.
The only complaint or issue other than with the water temp in shower would be the broken door frames. Both door frames (front door / back door) were broken. It looked like someone had kicked the door in. I blame it on the spring breakers and I did notice broken door frames on several other rooms on the floor that I was staying on. Both doors did securely lock, so that was not a real issue.
If you can get past a little peeling paint and a broken door frame, then this is the place for you.
Oh, they do not charge for ice...you are allowed one 10 lb bag of daily, actually on one day I used two bags.
Did I mention that the place was clean? Well, it was very clean and quiet. It was a very relaxing long weekend and I'm ready to back. I would most definately stay at the Casa Loma again.
Man, this turned in to a long review.
Don't let the bad reveiws mislead you. For the $$ you can not beat this palce.
