Just returned from 8 nights at the Seychelles Beach Resort, Unit 807. We rented from the owner via VRBO (VRBO # 96746) and had a fantastic experience with both him and the staff at the condo unit management office. The unit was quite well furnished and clean. We wanted for nothing but more time there! The owner even called to check on us to be certain if we needed anything that he helped us out. What a nice touch! Although our unit required use of an elevator, we never waited more than a minute or two at any time. Most times, it arrived within seconds; check-in/out times are more hectic. Parking was breeze and getting our "stuff" into the unit was easy as well, as we found one of the many carts and simply loaded it up and took it to the elevator across the bridge.
The location of Seychelles is ideal for families - close to grocery shopping, beach shopping, great restaurants, attractions, etc. etc. But, no clutter of the Redneck Riviera as in many years past. The pools at Seychelles are clean and comfortable. The water in August is pretty warm, but certainly enjoyable. The west-side pool was in the shade until at least noon, which was nice with the intense sun and heat of August in Florida. This pool is also a great location to watch the sun set and listen to Schooner's music - that's hard to beat. The beach was clean and well maintained for chairs, umbrellas, mats, trash, etc. Water of the gulf was clean and warm as well and spent a lot of time there.
Two recommendations while staying at Seychelles - 1.)Pirate Cruise - good for kids and adults and 2.)Captain Hook's at the Treasure Ship. First the Pirate Ship - it's a great way to spend a few hours and enjoy some good clean fun. The kids have a ball and get to enjoy a big water gun fight with another boat and the adults just get to hang out. The sunset cruise is almost a guarantee of a good time with great scenery. We saw dolphins, various fish and even a sea turtle on our cruise. The staff were great and very family oriented. As for Captain Hook's - I went there on the recommendation of one of the "pirates" from the cruise with some reluctance. I had visited the Treasure Ship restaurants in years past and found them to be average at best. But, I went back and am so glad I did! Captain Hooks is on the marina level and outside. By dinner time, it's in the shade. We sat and watched the fishing boats (private charter) come in and unload tons of fish! My daughter absolutely loved this part. The food was great and service was fantastic. Can't say enough good things there.
One word of "be careful how high you set your expectations" with regard to Captain Anderson's Restaurant. This is the most well-known and possibly the oldest restaurant on the beach. It has a pretty good reputation and I will admit the food was good. However, it was like eating in a bus station - you and at least 500 of your closest friends. The interior is vast and dark and I do not exaggerate about the 500 other people part. We had to see four different hostesses - each stationed along the way through the restaurant - to get seated for a table of two. Now, to be clear, we didn't wait, but it was like hiking the Grand Canyon with "guides" to get to our table.
Overall, great vacation and wouldn't change a thing. Highly recommend Seychelles (particularly unit 807), Pirate Cruise and Captain Hook's.
