We originally booked our recent accomodations at The Driftwood Lodge, mainly based on the glowing reviews it received on Tripadvisor. When we got to the hotel, we were quite skeptical upon seeing what the property looked like from the outside. Obviously a much older hotel, but we had high hopes that the room would be much nicer than the outside looked. This was not the case. The rooms are clean, but in desperate need of updates. There are no elevators, so if you are on the 2nd floor, be prepared to lug your stuff up a flight of stairs. Also, warning to non-smokers: these rooms DO NOT have private balconies, and due to the spaces between the "floor boards" on the balcony, your downstairs neighbor as well as the people beside you will be sharing their smoke. We actually ended up up-grading to the property next door, The Osprey, which is ownedby the same family. While still not exactly the Hilton, a much nicer place than the Driftwood. The staff was extremely helpful in switching us over, and they deserve many props for their professional conduct. They are the shining star at this property. Most of the people who stay at the Driftwood are repeat customers from years past, many have never stayed anywhere else in P.C. We talked to several of them. I think this is a very big reason for the slightly skewed rating on Tripadvisor.

Room Tip: Stay at their other property, The Osprey.

Thank you for the nice comments about our staff. As you discovered our friendly staff is what keeps folks coming back to the Driftwood and Osprey on the Gulf year after year.

We book each year before we leave. We love it, the staff is friendly and very clean. We had to cancel our trip in 2012 due to a car accident. One of us had a leg completely crushed in the accident, upon arrival we were unloading and two maintenance guys saw us and took two minutes of their time and carried two totes for us. We know they shouldn't probably help, but this was kindness. Our housekeeper, Terry, excellent, very friendly, and completes her job with a smile. Folks make a huge mistake when they stay other places. Prices are very reasonable, reserve early and even better. Thank you for each year at Driftwood Lodge! Nashville, TN girls and this year's Sand Castle First Place Winner!

Room Tip: All rooms are great, we have stayed in two different ones, pleased in both.

Nice motel, nice room, staff very friendly and helpful. Located out of the busy part of the beach area. Close to Pier Park and the new Super Walmart. We did not like the parking in front of the motel,as you had to back out into a busy street, so we used the overflow lot across the street. I wished the balcony was more private,as just about every one thar goes to PCB smokes. The people on each side smoked , and if they were not out smoking, the people under us were smoking ... The smoke came up thru the open boards on the deck.if I go back, I will stray at the Osprey, next door, as the balconies are private and there is an elevator.

Thank you for sharing your comments with us. We are happy to know that you will come back to enjoy our sister hotel, the Osprey on the Gulf, the next time you visit Panama City Beach. Registered guests at the Osprey are invited to enjoy all of the amenities of the Driftwood which is located right next door.

I've reviewed this place so much over the almost 15 years of visiting, that I can't think of anymore words to describe how wonderful this place is. As you can see from all the reviews this is a very family, couples, friends, etc. friendly kind of place. I love the people that I see at this time every year. It seems as though we just saw each other yesterday instead of last year. They've updated the tv's in the rooms, the beds are so comfortable and I just love it. This is the only place we'll stay.

Room Tip: Any room you choose will be the best room.

I spent a week here in May and heading back in October for another week. This place feels like home. The staff is always so nice, accommodating and helpful for anything you need, any time of day. Enjoy chatting with the guests, many of which come back time after time. This is a no frills hotel, but who needs frills when you have a place that makes and treats you like their own family?? Excellent location to anything you would need. We first starting coming here when our kids were newborns, they are now 26 and 22, and I have started bringing the next generation with us. We look forward to each and every trip there...love the movie night and homemade fudge and soups....

Room Tip: all rooms here are good!

My sister and I spent five fun days last week at the Driftwood Lodge. We used to come here as kids and rediscovered it a few years ago. Owned and run by the Gilmore Family, it's such a friendly place and so relaxing. We enjoy seeing familiar faces when we return: Lennie with his home-made peanut butter fudge for movie night and Ramil's smiling face at the front desk. We met Suzanne this time, a third-generation Gilmore. We always try to get a cabana room so we can be right down by the beach with a kitchenette. We noticed some very nice upgrades this visit: new shelving in the bath room, a flat-screen TV, WiFi, new lounge chairs on the deck, a PC in the communal sun room. We enjoy the traditions like the weekly outdoor movie (and Lenny's fudge), watermelon daily at 1:00 followed by watermelon seed spitting contests for the kids, popcorn every afternoon in the sun room, hotdogs and Mexican Cokes at the Tiki Bar. The Driftwood is conveniently located near Pier Park, so a movie theatre, lots of restaurants and shopping are just a short walk away.
