I went to the Sandpiper Aug. 2004 with family and friends, the bottom line is I won't be going back anytime soon! Never in fact. Wait a minute,Wait a minute. If they were to tear the place down and build from scratch and get rid of the rude employee's that were not helpful in any way possible, then I might consider it! Not probable is it...
The floors were discusting, the trash bins outside our room were stinky as if they had'nt been changed for sometime, maintainance was prompt after our first night when the A/C quit working. Well I say prompt, but I mean after the 2nd time I asked them to come and fix it! I had to go to the front desk and wait for someone to with me to fix it, otherwise we may still be waiting! Thank's....
I know of only one name I would recomend the Sandpiper to.... IVAN. Maybe IVAN could help wash away the bugs that shared our room with us, and cool off the bathroom which had no A/C and only kept getting hotter if you had the light on while you were in there. The only good thing about the lazy river was that you had it all to yourself because nobody liked it! Thanks again from Louisville, Kentucky.....

I stayed in December, 2000 for two weeks, by myself, after paying for the monthly rental rate. Regardless of whether you stayed one week or the entire month, they charged you the full monthly price. At that particular time the monthy rates were reasonable, however, they added a $250.00 security deposit charge onto your bill upfront, which, upon leaving after two weeks, it was never returned, nor was I able to talk them into returning it. I was told i'd have to get it back from corporate headquarters(probably a hut on the beach). Some of the management at the front desk was ok during the stay, depending on who you dealt with, as the girls that worked there seemed ok, but the guys were jerks. The room itself was fine as I apparently came at the right time of the year when they were renovating the place(apparently repairing and replacing stuff due to all the spring break damage earlier in the year) and the carpets etc. had all been replaced in my room. The indoor pool was fine and the tiki bar was ok if you liked big band music played all day until 10 pm(apparently that was a snowbird ritual) . They had cheap draft beer prices. When I was there, there wasn't that many people staying there other than elderly folks, not much noise etc.The beaches were in pretty good shape as far as cleanliness goes. They did allow pets in the rooms which is a bad thing. The security seemed like thugs from a b-movie.The location was good, right down from a grocery store, restaurants, etc. . The phones in the room cost you .50 a minute to call local. While I was there I met someone who was threatened with arrest over a $100.00 phone bill he had to pay immediately, while he was still staying there. They were constantly working on this place the whole time I was there repairing something, so i could imagine what it looked like during the summer. The restaurant on the premises was so/so, the gift shop was fine. They did have alot of grills to cook on outside. If you stay monthly they only come to your room once a week to clean your room.I suggest if you plan on staying there, that you not make reservations over the phone, go down there and look at the room, etc. before you ever pay them a dime or give them your credit card/debit card and make sure you find out exactly what all the charges are upfront and what you are getting into first as far as the room etc.. Don't expect your security deposit back unless things have changed since 2000, which I doubt. They stuck that in their back pockets. Naive people beware, these people are money hungry.

Went there for Spring Break 2004, had the time of my life! All the employees were so helpful and accommodating! Everyone had a great time and never wanted to leave the property! Can't wait to go back to the Tiki Bar for SB 2005!

My husband and I have been to Panama City Beach several times before this stay. We decided to take our children, all together 6 adults and 2 grandchildren.
Tiki bar (they loved). Beach (was nice). The lazy river ride (disappointing). Pools (disappointing).
The room was horrific, bugs, cracks in the floor, could not put the grandchildren down on the floor they were so nasty. They put us in a room that was too small to even move around. Management had told us this would be the best room for all of us. One bathroom and 8 people ( not a great situation)The kitchen was horrible, bugs everywhere. We sent in a deposit of 350.00, I wish I had checked this motel out more.
Next time my husband and I take a trip to Panama City Beach, we are going to call the Better Business Bureau to check them out.

This will be my first time and last time to stay there.

1) don't expect your deposit back no matter what. 2) don't sign all the way in and let them swipe your credit card and sign the waiver they make you sign before you inspect the room. they put they whole stay on your credit card and even if you come back 5 minutes later and say it's the totally wrong type room (efficiency vs. separate bedroom) they won't refund you a cent or work with you.
3) don't take children, or expect to get a full night's sleep.

disclaimer's: 1) i have been going to panama city for all my 40 years, so i am not the pickiest person or biggest prude in the world. 2) i have traveled extensively on business and pleasure both in the u.s. and abroad so i thought i had seen it all. 3) we didn't go during spring break.

the office staff seem so prepped for your complaints that i am now convinced that this is all planned for them to win and you to lose. when my 61-year-old mother complained they threatened with security. my 65-year-old father had the lovely 6 a.m. experience of a college boy not just peeing off the balcony, but on it. i loved my 18-month-old's first beach experience being terrified to be awakened at 2 a.m. in the a.m. to the "f word" being yelled next door.

it's a shame because this place could be okay if they just tried a bit and also decided whether they wanted to be a youth hangout or a family establishment.

i wish i had read the other reviews sooner. i was embarrassed to have taken my family here.
