My family and I have stayed at the Sandpiper Beacon before and have enjoyed ourselves each time.
This time, my husband and I were alone. We asked for a room for 2 and got a room that would literally sleep 8! I guess that's what they had available. The price was great, we were gulf view on the first floor. The room was clean and well kept. The towels were small but edequate in number.
Beds were very comfortable. The kitchenette was clean and well stocked.
The staff were very nice both at the front desk and in the grocery store. The store prices are very high. The Tiki bar staff were great and were conscientous about checking ID.
A girls softball tourney was in town and there were a lot of families around which was fine and in our little area the parents seemed to be keeping a good eye on their children which made me happy. A group of young girls were having a party on the deck outside our room late but once the door was closed we couldn't hear them or their music and they were well supervised.
On the east end of the Motel (by the pool, hot tub and sundeck) there seemed to be some kind of reunion going on so a lot of loud music and one drinking/screaming man and his crowd pretty much ran us away from there and it was still day time.
We noticed a lot of cigarette butts on the beach and I took one beer can out of the water someone had crushed and sank. Also when searching for seashells, I found 2 beer bottle tops (same brand as the can).
*** This was a problem for me ... and not the fault of the Motel or staff. People who bring there kids on vacation (which I have done many times) need to curtail their behavior ... you don't drink on the beach when you should be keeping your family safe or leave your cans and butts around for children to step on ... yours or anyone elses. There are Tiki bars within the Motel to make use of ... keep the liquor there. ***
Overall, it was all good.

Me and my boyfriend, Nicholas, were heading down to Panama City Beach for spring break. We saw the ad for the Sandpiper Beacon somewhere, and thought, "What an awesome hotel?"
They brag about the slides, lazy river, bar, and pool excessively. So I decided to book a room.
It was very overpriced in my opinion. But, I booked anyway. Well me and my boyfriend drove down, excited to be staying in such a great hotel. When we got there, we had no where to park, so we parked a block down the road. So we walked up to the hotel. It was very shabby looking and lacked upkeep, but we ignored that and walked into the hotel.
"What on earth is that smell?" Was the first thing that Nicholas said. I smelled it too. It was like the stench of rotting fish mixed with chlorine! I tried to ignore it, and walked up to the desk.
"We have reservations." I told the lady at the desk.
She replied, leaned lazily against a wall. "Name?"
I told her our name and what nights we had booked. She looked slowly on her computer for about 10 minutes.
"We don't have your reservations here." The lady replied rudely. I was confused because I had booked them online a few nights earlier. I explained, and she looked once more.
"It's not here." said the lady again gruffly. I was very angry. Anyway, we made reservations there, and luckily they had one room. We took the squeaky elevator up to our 2nd floor room.
We walked into our room. It was definitely shabby. The room needed painting badly, and it needed new bed sheets. The room smelt like a dog, since pets are allowed. There were some discusting urine stains on the floor and even cockroaches! I was shocked! I wanted to leave right then, but there were no other hotels vacant. I decided to check out the pool and lazy river, which is inside. A bunch of rowdy kids kept screaming and bumping into me as I floated down the tiny lazy river. The water smelt of urine strongly.
The pool smelt the same, and had a yellowish tint. I got out immediately. Have they heard of sanitation? It was repulsive. We stayed out on the beach all day after that.
When it became night and we lay down in our bed, I heard a bunch of teenagers talking and laughing loudly in the next room. I didn't get a wink of sleep. Also the AC, was so loud it was bothersome.
Anyway, l cancelled reservations the next morning and we went to the Legacy, which is very nice and clean.

I don't recommend this hotel to anyone.
I am just letting you know before you waste your hard-earned money at this shabby place.
I am sorry if you disagree, but this was what happened with my stay.

From the moment that we arrived at the hotel , the staff was extremely unprofessional . Any questions that were asked to front desk staff were met with absent looks and little to no response . At the tiki bar , bouncers and staff were too busy flirting with local females that appeared to be underage , to keep the place from feeling unsafe . All amenities were crowded and poorly maintained . The beach was regularly littered with beer cans , bottles and other "unmentioned" disgusting items through most of the late evening until around noon each day . Children's playground was inaccessible to my child because grown , drunk men were constantly on the swings and slides ! SHAME ON THIS PLACE AND THEIR STAFF !!! Forget about wave runners , sailboats , etc. , no way I'd pay to rent those things when the evening before , local kids "pretend" ride on them .
In summary , the inmates are running the asylum .

If you are a partier, then this is your place!
There are lots of drugs and other things going on here. The rooms were old and nasty. It is a place to lay your head and party. Do not bring kids...

“We We Have Stayed There Alot Of Times Before & We'll Be Back!”

Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort

We have stayed at Sandpiper Beacon several times in the last 20 years. We were worried about the reviews about the hotel, but I'm glad we ignored them. The kids wanted to stay there for the memories...and now we have a grandchild too. Our kids are 12, 17, and 20 now.. and we do not want to stay anywhere else. We just got back from our vacation a couple of weeks ago( June, 22-27 2008) and we had a blast. There are not many hotels that allow you to bring small dogs, a {pom and Chihuahua} and they loved the 13 hour trip there and the hotel. I love the fact that the place is hopping all night long.(Our sleep was never disturbed) After shopping, being on the beach, Shell Island, and running all day its nice to swim in the pool late at night , We like to go out on the beach and walk at night, we never felt threatened or at risk. The hotel I think is one of the few places that have a Tiki bar and playground and games like shuffle board. One night the bar had a fire dancer and hula dancers. There is everything rentable on the beach like para sailing and jet sking. The gift shop is my favorite place to shop. There is a indoor pool and lazy river. There is a pool, and baby pool out front that closes earlier than the one in the back. In back there is a pool that stays open all night long and hot tub. The bar is in the back but it doesn't stay open all night. Our room over looked the pool in the back, and we had a great ocean view. Alot of nights we would go and sit on the balcony till two or 3'oclock in the morning and watch the people swim or on the beach, you really could'nt hear them over the air conditioner. The only problem we had was the bathtub didn't drain fast enough...We didn't say anything because it wasn't a big deal, but the maid noticed it and had someone fix it. The maids do come everyday, but we prefer just to change out the towels and trash, because of the dogs. One thing we notice about Panama City is that the area is changing, There are huge hotels going in, There is a mall that was built down the road that has all the big name stores and is surrounded by and old town effect. Our room was clean, it had 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. There were no bugs in the hotel room. (Florida does have big roaches called Palmeto bugs and are present in the finest hotels) but they were outside. One last thing, the hotel is just a few mintutes from the larger grocery stores and gift shops...The dollar stores are the best.....There is something for everybody there.
