“Dirty Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012 via mobile

Let me first start off by saying that I booked this hotel knowing it was one of the cheaper hotels I looked at online, and I wasn't expecting a resort or anything. My boyfriend and I had already been to the beach in May and we decided last minute to come again at the end of the summer, but to book a cheaper hotel as we just wanted to chill at the beach. Unfortunately, the weather was horrible and we were stuck in our room more than we wanted/expected to.

The room itself was filthy. There was a lot of moisture in the room. The carpet was damp and unclean, and our ceiling had black mold on it. Thankfully, I had a king size comforter in my trunk because there was no way either of us were sleeping on those sheets/pillows. The kitchen was dirty and in disrepair.

Overall I was really disappointed.

The only positive I can say is the staff was friendly and housekeeping was accommodating.

They are going through extensive renovations at the moment, so maybe once those are done it will be better. But until then, I wouldn't recommend coming here.

“WORST hotel experience ever....filthy, gross, bed bugs!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

We walked into the room and the first thing i noticed was the strong odor of some cleaning agent (Lysol, beach) not sure but very strong and misleading as if the room was cleaned. We had a suite for 2 days and the kitchen was filthy with food stuck on the stove and in the microwave. The carpets had not been vacumed in forever and smelled. The tables and dressers had not been dustied or wiped off and there was sticky food all over them..The bathroom had someones clump of hair on the floor and the floor had not been mopped or swept at all..later that day i took a shower to find out that there was a dead bug stuck on one of the towels, which looked like a bed bug ( not a roach!) I never once took my shoes off and had 2 small children with me which was almost impossible for them not to crawl around on the filthy floor..I told my husband to get some ice for our room and come to find out, they only had ONE ice machine for the whole hotel, so we never had ice the whole time..REALLY!! The pool was disgusting and the baby pool too..the so called maintanence guy drained the hot tub that morning and said that it was too dirty to let anyone get in, so he continued to clean it..suprised i thought he was going to clean the pool as well, but neither one was vacuumed or cleaned the enitre time. The rim around the pool was gross like it had not been cleaned in a long time..im not talking about the sand in the pool since that is part of being right on the beach, the pool was so nasty and and the water was so cloudy and stuff floating in it that no chemicals were ever put in....I could go on and on...but the worst part was that the BED SHEETS that were NOTchanged before we got there and the comforter had stains all over it..the sheets had crumbs and hairs all over it...i was horrified!!!! The air conditioner which did work made loud noises all night off and on..Yes, this hotel is under construction and in the process of a muilti million dollar renovation but the HOUSEKEEPING is TERRIBLE and the managment seems to overlook it after repeated negative posts and reviews!!!!!!. DONT STAY HERE, NOT WORTH THE $$$....HOUSEKEEPING WILL NOT CHANGE!!!

Room Tip: Dont Stay here!!! Not worth the $$$$

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts concerning your recent visit. I am so sorry that your stay was not enjoyable. I have already spoken with our housekeeping manager about your concerns. Your room should have been neat and clean and I'm sorry that wasn't the product that we provided. As to your comments about the pool and hot tub, this area is cleaned and vac'd every morning prior to the area being open to our guests. Chemical readings are taken throughout the day and if somthing needs to be added it is done following strict safety guidelines. You would never see chemicals being added to the pool, this is all done through an automated delivery system.

Again, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. I hope you'll stay with us again and find out why we say, "we're having fun at the Grand Cayman Motel."

“HORRIBLE DUMP!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

My husband and I chose this wretched place on the spur of the moment because it was a holiday week and we wanted to ensure a place to stay that would meet our needs- we have 2 children and wanted a kitchen, etc. When we arrived, there were only 3 cars in the parking lot, and they said our room would not be ready until 3pm-this was at 10AM. When we finally checked in, the room had a fresh scent of RAID ROACH SPRAY!! It was even on the bottoms of the horrid bedspreads that we smelled as we went to sleep. I woke up the first night and saw a bug in our bed. I felt very saddened we had chosen this place for our children to stay. We were only allowed 1 roll of toilet paper a day between 4 people. The construction began at 7:30 AM with jackhammers so loud there was no sleeping in.. ON OUR VACATION!!!!! On the 4th of July night, whole the fireworks were still going off, around 10:30pm my children were lying in the bed watching TV while my husband and I were on the balcony listening to the radio. We were having a conversation when we looked up and to our horror saw a strange man in our room. He opened the balcony room door and told us to turn ff the radio. We were so shocked by the time we realized what had happened- that this strange man had entered our room and SCARED MY KIDS, he had left. My husband left and went down to the office and I followed a few mins later after instructing my 9 yr old little girl how to block the door Turns out, it was the "maintenence man" who had entered our room. He attemped to have an altercation with my husband in the front lobby. I called the police at this point. He already had a scab from a broken nose on the bridge of his nose. He actually had the nerve to say he had been knocking for 20mins when I had a 9 yr old to dispute it! She said no, he just busted in!! They ended up givng us 2 nights refunded because they KNEW they were in the wrong. The rest of the trip was ruined and my kids would put all the chairs in front of the door because they were scared "that man" would come back. This place is truly a dump with rude staff and the manager did not even apologize to us for this incident. The sheets are threadbare with horrid pillows. The coffee pot shocked me when I turned it on. DO NOT waste your money here. We could have stayed at a real condo for the money these crooks took from us.

“old florida style”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

we arrived to a room that took me back to my childhood. the weird smell that was in every hotel on the beach in the 60's and 70's. the staff was very nice, however, when the maid took our used towels she said she'd bring some back when they got clean. that was that. i went to the front desk and asked for some at 9p.m. they could only give me one. Other than that, it wasn't too bad. the old fashioned keys made me feel a little nervous, but i'm sure the renovated rooms are getting electronic keys. later in our stay we decided to stay an extra day. we were moved to the 6th floor and although the room wasn't renovated it was much cleaner than the bottom floor room. my advice would be to take extra towels and stay 3rd floor or higher

Room Tip: higher floor seem cleaner

“Great weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We just got back from two days here. We booked it because this was a last minute trip and we were only going for the weekend and it has no minimum number of nights. After we had already booked it I read some of the reviews here and was deathly afraid I would regret the choice. Not so at all. The room was very, very clean and the service was great. When we got up the first morning the coffee maker didn't work but when I called the front desk it was immediately replaced (and this was at 6:30 a.m.). Later in the stay my husband managed to mess up the programming on the remote and a call to the front desk produced a brand new one in less than 30 minutes.

Every room has an ocean view. The chair/umbrellas are serviced by a super helpful friendly guy named Ron (although I imagine he doesn't work for the motel but probably a third party service).

My only two issues were that there was nothing at all in the room - no dishes, no flatware, no shampoo, etc, no hair dryer. That, and the plumbing was really LOUD. The friendly front desk clerk (I think her name was Sally?) assured me both are part of the property-wide remodel and would be fixed by the next time we come - and we will definitely be back.
