“We will be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2008

Absolutely loved this resort. Room was not ready at check in, but the hotel made a nice gesture in putting us in another room and giving my kids a huge blow up whale to play with in the ocean. We requested a lower floor to use the stairs if the elevators were slow. We never used the stairs as elevators were never an issue. If not going to the beach, use the east elevators to get to the lobby floor. This was a slow period for the town, but this resort seemed pretty full. Sky bar was nice, tiki bar guys were very friendly (no Iced tea). Front desk was very helpful each time we had a question. Both pools were very nice. Room had a queen in the private bedroom, set of bunks in the long hallway, and a pull out couch. Very nicely appointed. Beach towels under the bathroom sink for our use. Granite counter tops, nice refrigerator, garbage disposal, dishwasher, washer and dryer, flat panel in the living room, double slider balcony doors to allow wonderful ocean views and breeze. Great sunsets from any room. Beach access steps away from pool. We didn't use the beach chairs so do not know if they cost anything but have read $25/day. We had our own chairs and beach and ocean toys. We would set up in the mid morning at the beach, swim and play, head back to the room for lunch and check emails, then head back to our spot for the rest of the afternoon. our stuff remained untouched except for the one boy who decided to borrow our skim board while we watched him from the balcony eating chili dogs. He put it back when he was finished so no harm, just funny. Kitchen had basically everything needed, even paper towels and salt and pepper. No other condiments are available. No onsite store that I ever found but a small store is right next door selling the basics you might need. Just have to ignore the guys looking for some change. We only used the sky bridge one time as we found it easier to walk across the street to get to the parking deck. Sky bridge is not that big of a deal, most of the larger properties have these as well. We also learned to park on the side of the other pool and were in our car very fast. We also walked out the front of the hotel and around the corner to get to the beach since the vacant lot next door also allowed for that part of the beach to not be crowded. We would go back through the regular hotel doors as we used their outside showers to wash our feet. We had a great week. Resort is non-smoking even on the balconies and common areas, so don't stay here if you need to get your smoke on regularly. Things i didn't like were few. Movie night at the pool was a PG 13 movie titled 10,000 BC. My kids do not yet watch those types of movies and I felt like they should have had a more family freindly offering since the property is full of families. The resort needs a few electircal oulets to plug in laptops in the pool area for those of us who still work while on "vacation". Need Iced Tea for sale in the pool for those that don't drink. Need a "redbox" in the lobby for DVD movie rentals instead of having to drive to Walmart. Need a sign at the gulf side pool telling people to not "place" towels and leave their lounge chairs unoccupoied. i watched people come in the morning, stake out their chairs then go to the beach for a few hours, then come back to the pool. This is not fair for the people that are actually wanting a lounge chair to enjoy. Maybe adding a few would be a good idea. Overall, we had a great experience. My kids absolutely loved staying there and being so close to the beach. We didn't have to get in the car unless we ran out of something. I took them to pier pak to eat dinner the last night since they ate in the room for every meal the entire time we were in Panama City. We will return again.

We stayed at the Wyndham at the end of August and for the most part we loved it. Like many have said, the elevators did get a little slow as the place got busier towards the Labor Day weekend. We were treated very well upon our arrival and the staff was very accomodating.
I wasn't really sure why the pool had so few chaise lounges, but you did have to be there early to get one. Usually by 9:00 and you had no sun until 10:00.
This place seems to be a work in progress and I imagine that in a couple of years it will be completely different. They were just starting the new building while we were there and they told us that they were adding another pool, a lazy river and a restaurant. With no real food to purchase on the premisis, that would be welcome.

  • Liked — Pool and proximity to beach

My family just returned from a week stay at the Wyndham Panama City Beach. I had never been to PCB just for the fact it has always been known as the "Redneck Riviera" and a pit stop for drunken spring breakers. However, we thought we'd give it a try beacuse some relatives visited recently and said you wouldn't even recognize the place due to all of the upgrades. We own with RCI and exchanged into the Wyndham property on a whim. When we pulled up, we were plesantly surprised with the property. It's in the perfect location...only 2.5 miles from wal-mart one way and one mile to the new pier park the other way. When we arrived to check in, we were pleasently greeted by the bell men who directed us into the lobby. The lobby was mostly boarded up to to the ongoing construction, however, by the end of our stay all the boards were removed for the finishing touches of the lobby. In a couple weeks or so, it will be totally finished. The girl at the front desk, Ms. Hill, did not leave us a good first impression. She was basically rude. She never made eye contact and talked so low you couldn't understand her. We had obviously never been to the property before and had a few questions...she was NO help. She pretty much threw a resort map in our face and said come back at 4 when your room will be ready. Luckily, it was only about a 45 minute wait for our room. We did report her.

As we waited, we toured the property on the parking garage/lobby side of the street. The 2 new pools on this side of the street had only been open for 2 weeks. They were AMAZING! Our 2 year old LOVED them. The kiddy pool had a spraying mushroom and buckets that would constantly re-fill and dump into the pool. It also had a beach-type entrance that you could wade in so no chance of a toddler falling off the edge. These two pools/hot tub were gorgeous with PLENTY of layback chairs. There are also large, clean bathrooms. There is a concession-type area that's not open yet, but with plans to have a walk up grill to get drinks, hambugers, etc. That will be so nice not having to pack up to the room for lunch.

There is a Starbucks in the lobby that is always open. The one thing that's not very user-friendly about this resort is the way you get to your room. You park in the parking gargage levels 1-5. However, only level 3 has the skybridge that takes you to your room. Once you cross the skybridge to cross the street, you must go back down to the 1st floor in order to take an elevator up to your room. It's kind a maze, actually. We read previous reviews, so we were prepared for the horrendous elevators. i will agree that the day of checkin was awful at the elevators, but other than that we had no elevator issues. One big complaint is that there are no service elevators. So maintenace men, cleaning ladies, etc all use the public elevators which slow things down a bit too. As far as getting your luggage to your room, definitely use the 15 monute drop off on the resort side of the street before parking in the garage. Hopefully you can find a cart. Most chekin days (friday and satrday) are so busy you have to leave a photo ID with the guy to make sure you return it. We did.

The room was gorgeous. Very spacious! We even got upgraded to a deluxe 1 bedroom that had 2 bathrooms and a set of bunkbeds. This was a very pleasant surprise. Especially since there were 4 adults and 1 toddler. Also, there is no weekly maid service. Once you walk into the room, how clean you want the room is up to you. The room has all the appliances you need...vaccuum, dishwasher, washer/dryer, broom. I did not enjoy making my own bed, though. The floors are all tile which get cold, so bring slippers or prepare to wear flip flops all week.

The pool and hot tub on the beach side of the resort was very pretty too. With the 2 pools opening up across the street, it has taken alot of the crowd away from this pool. It wasn't over-crowded at all. Our room was on the 6th floor which was PLENTY high enough. We had a perfect ocean view as well as being able to see every thing that went on at the pool. At this pool, they have karaoke one night as well as movie night where they blow up a big projection screen. We loved this.

We did do the timeshare spill, only because we got 75 bucks for it. We weren't pressured at all by Robby who actually was very helpful in letting us know the future plans of the resort. We are definitely going back next summer to see all the added amenities. By next year, there will be a spa, huge workout room, lazy river, and new poolside grill to name a few. Yes, it wasn't completely finished, but we loved it and will definitely be back! Feel free to ask any questions/concerns you might have.
