We played the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort during our buddies golf trip to Daytona Beach this past January. The one who organized the trip found a good rate on GolfNow for the Ocean Course. In the past he couldn't get on because you had to be staying at the resort to be able to play. So he was excited to book the round on GolfNow for our trip.
The course is well manicured altough we fouind most of the fairway lies to be fairly tight. We couldn't decide whether it was because of the nearness to the ocean or just the way the superintendent maintains the course. Although the resort claims that there are six holes on the ocean there are only two that parallel the beach. Two others play into the ocean and two holes play away from the ocean. You can't see the ocean except for a few views from atop a couple of dunes and tee boxes. There was constant wind during our round which added to the challenge. There is water on many of the holes which should not come into play but did for me on a couple of shots.
One of the guys in our group was in the zone on the back nine. He was on in two for an eagle putt on number ten. He made birdie. On eleven he made eagle on a ninety yard pitch shot that fell for him. And he didn't even see it go in because he had turned and started walking back to the cart. I will remember this from our trip because you don't see an eagle very often.
