“Low budget best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Not sure about these bad reviews as you get what you pay for. At a great price for these rooms they are satisfactory. PROS: comfortable beds, lot's of pillows, connecting rooms, right on the beach, free rental of beach items, friendly staff, new TV's and great air conditioning systems in the rooms, check-out is 11:00 a.m., close to food and shopping. CONS: Room was dusty, outside is outdated, pool closes at DUSK!?!?, furniture is dated, pool need to be redone as there were chunks missing in little spots, kept getting kicked out of the free wifi and having to sign back in. We would stay here again when wanting a beach view on a budget.

Room Tip: 312-314 are good rooms

June 28-July5- New remodeled and updated room was awesome!. I was there 12 nights and every sinlge night was perfect. I was even there during TS Debby. I enjoyed watching the ocean put on a show during the storm. New tile floor, new beds, new pillows and bed spreads. Pool was spotless the entire time there. Front desk clerks were super sweet and the maid service was awesome and kept my room very clean. I can not wait until next year. We had 5 rooms totals and NO problem with any of them. Thank you new owner!!!!

My husband and I stayed in this hotel over memorial day weekend as our previous (gorgeous) hotel was fully booked. It was absolutely awful. The room was filthy the furniture broken and old, The bathroom falling apart. My husband tripped over a large metal bracket stuck out from under the bed. The whole place was so seedy and scruffy looking. The pool look unkempt and breakfast room scruffy. There was a big room upstairs that i think used to be a bar but was now just a dumping ground for broken furniture. We could not wait to get out of the place. When they offered us a 10% voucher for our next stay I almost laughed out loud. This was the worst (but most expensive) hotel we stayed in while we were in florida.

I had a splitting migraine from the sun...went and asked the front desk for some reg coffee to make in my room because husband bought decaf on accident...which they have in the lobby in packets...the hateful woman at desk said they don't do that or something to the effect. When we checked in...they said..."If there is anything we can do please let us know"...the first thing you ask for....you get rude...don't bother me behavior...too many nice affordable hotels/motels in area...do yourself a service and go next door for your vacation stay.

Had a spur of the moment vacation with my mom to celebrate the beginning of summer. We both enjoy things with the "Old Florida" vibe, and this place with its Polynesian theme definitely fits the bill. True, the furniture was a little older, but the staff all went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, and we had an amazing ocean view. The location is convenient to Daytona, although we spent most of our time on the balcony just enjoying the breeze! I would definitely stay here again. The price is reasonable and there is a nice (if small) breakfast in the lobby.

Room Tip: Definitely get ocean view. Its only a few $ more and you have a phenomenal view.

i enjoyed staying here again last week and its even better than ever, in fact, i showed my sister and brother, who are now in ormond beach at a crummy time share place, and they are super impressed with the ocean front rooms and suites and have reservations to come to the makai this coming weekend. they may leave their timeshare early to stay at the wonderful makai. wonderful, caring staff here who treat you like important family members. great pool and jacuzzi, beautiful grounds, super nice rooms, very clean, well maintained hotel! can t wait to come back here, in fact, may come back with my sister and brother this weekend.

Room Tip: all are great rooms!

I had a very nice stay. After reading reviews...I was scared. Other then furniture being outdated, the room was clean and nice. We had a renovated room w kitchen. Perfect view and not crowded like Daytona. The breakfast could use some work bur overall...I was quite pleased. Staff was great.
