I am an avid traveler and have stayed at many hotels/motels/hostels all over the country, even the world. The Ocean Mist Motel is one of the most unique and relaxing places I have ever stayed by a long shot. I've stayed there several times and its always been a good experience. I've stayed there alone as well as with friends and family. The management is always very accommodating to your situation whatever it may be. This is a small locally owned and operated motel. There is no maid/cleaning service. There is no phone or alarm clocks in the rooms. But everyone has a cellphone these days don't they?!? It's somewhat of a "Do It Yourself" type of place but honestly that's why I go there. I like the privacy and independence of emptying my own trash can etc. The rooms are pretty simple with only the basics and are old fashion in decor but they are always clean and comfortable with cable tv (there are a lot of good stations), air-conditioning/heater etc. The management is constantly working to update the rooms a little bit at a time to improve this decades old motel. The bathrooms are rather small but certainly sufficent and I've never had any problems with anything.
With that being said-if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. The Ocean Mist is among the last of a dying breed of "mom and pop" types of beach motels. Chuck, the owner, and his wife are really fantastic hosts. Chuck is always there 24/7 for anything you could possibly need. He's quite personable and genuinely a really nice guy and great to talk to. He's really informative if you have any questions or need recommendations on local places/events,things to do etc. He's also very fair. The nightly rate is affordable at right around $50 and he always offers a good deal for an extended stay. There are regular rooms available as well as some with kitchenettes. They are basically efficiency apartments. Kitchen is pretty standard with small stove, sink refrigerator etc. Basic utensils pots, pans are provided. There is also a laundry room with a washer and dryer located outside in the middle of the building. Its quite convenient. Internet is always an important consideration for me when I am looking for a place to stay. There is free wireless internet throughout the property and always works perfectly. My iPod even actually connected to it ON the beach. BTW the beach is literally right outside your door. If you walk 500 feet you will be standing in the ocean. It's a beautiful red sand beach. It's private and undeveloped which is really nice and hard to find in Florida. There is also a rooftop deck above the front office and you can see the ocean perfectly as well as great view up and down A1A in either direction. It's a great place to hang out, people watch, sunbathe or entertain.
The location is perfect. About a 10-15 minute drive to Daytona Beach Boardwalk its easy access to all the fun of Daytona. Its also just minutes from the racetrack. There is a gas station next to the motel and grocery store, dollar store, barber, many restaurants, liquor store etc. are all within walking distance from the motel. There is also a really great park right down the street. It's called Bicentennial Park and there are tennis courts, basketball court, baseball diamond, wooded walking trails the lead to the Tomoka Basin which is beautiful.
Bottom line is, I would recommend the Ocean Mist Motel for single people, couples, families with teenagers or retired people or anyone looking for a great time. Be sure to tell Chuck I said Hi!! Enjoy the Ocean Mist.
