“The Casements”

The Rockefeller summer home. Interesting for its simplicity, given it's a Rockefeller residence. Nice docents will conduct a tour and you can leave a donation. Gift shop is available, too. Interesting photos of old Ormond before it was developed.

“A Bit of Industrial Era History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Having watched the series "The Men Who Built America", we found The Casements to be a source for seeing some history for ourselves. We've been vacationing in this area for over 25 years and just read about this in one of the local 'Things To Do' brochures. We were free to wander about the building although some areas were closed or gated. We viewed great photographs and read lots of newspapers regarding John Rockerfeller's industrial rise. Once we'd seen and read what we wanted, we met a very nice woman with whom we shared our home state of Maine. She volunteers here one day a week and this was her day off. She had lots of history (some with ties to Acadia National Park in Maine) to share with us and then we joined a group tour. The historian guide brought us into the study which is gated for preservation and where some original pieces are on display. Very happy we took the time to visit. Lots of restrooms and free parking. The Casements offers free admission to all with donations gratefully accepted.

“Interesting bit of history”

Interesting tour of a early summer home of the elite. Great volunteer guide was very informative. This house was a great example of what a community can do to keep history preserved.

“Unknown gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

My husband wanted to stop here. I was less than enthusiastic when I arrived. Our free guided tour gave us so much information, I left really glad we had stopped. Little tidbits about John D. Rockefeller made the place come alive!
