The Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar used to be our favorite place to go to. Me and my family plus a couple of my friends are regulars but now the service PLUS the food is absolutely disintegrating. First let's start off with the service: the pioneer hibachi chefs that were there are gone replaced with new trainees, and also the rest of the staff. How is this relevant you ask? Well, the entertaining experience we had at the hibachi seats are gone, it became bland and not exciting because of lack of show. The new waitresses can barely remember your order and they kept messing up. The last time we went there they had TWO hibachi chefs for a BUSY weekend night so we had to wait so long just to eat.
Next is the food: the hibachi food is good, amazing blend of flavors but I love sushi. I've always ordered sushi. But this time, raw sushi is not fresh. The raw fish is dry and tasteless. I've tasted extremely fresh sushi at a different restaurant, and this is not one of them. The cooked ones (AMAZING presentations) are bland. They all tasted the same. Even the added special ingredients i.e. cherries, pineapples, are tasteless! The bacon bits are hard and rubbery. It's like eating play-doh. Overall all the sushi is DRY and BLAND.
I just wish they could bring the quality of food and the service back but as a regular you can feel the tension that things are not going so well. The place is degrading. Overall it WAS an amazing experience at our first visits but would I return due to my recent horrible experiences? I would prefer not. Other than that I would definitely recommend the hibachi menu than from the kitchen, because most of the stuff that comes out of there is bland. And if you're trying out sushi for the first time, try it somewhere else. This is not the place that will give you a good impression on the dish.
