“Have come back for 20 years. Great value for the money. Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2011

Have stayed here since I was a kid and am now bringing my 3 kids here. We go with a big group of about 20 people every year. 2 bedroom oceanfront condo for $700.00 a week? How can I complain? The grounds are inviting, lots of activities for the kids, very friendly guests-always meet great people. Convenient to good restaurants, great shopping, and 1 -1.5 hr drive to disney. great golf nearby. The staff is always very helpful and accomodating. Just a nice easy vacation. A couple of drawbacks-hate that they are still allowing cars on the beach. I feel Ormond/Daytona beach should be promoting this area as a family vacation spot as all the spingbreakers of the past are no longer. And specific to Plantation Island - the beach lounge chairs are outdated and worn.

We enjoyed our week at Plantation island. Our room was clean, appeared to have new carpet and upholstery. Kitchen was tiny but personally I don't spend my vacation time in the kitchen. It had a stove w/ oven, microwave, full size refrigerator, and dishwasher. Good central location, played golf nearby and the beach was great - just steps away. Daytona Beach is an easy beach walk. Shopping nearby. Staff was helpful. Wish we had had a balcony but there were a couple of days when we had the windows open and enjoyed the breeze (this was January). Very quiet, friendly people. If you go, try Betty's for dinner.

Plantation Island is located near the aging city of Daytona Beach. A lot of people are giving bad reviews to the area hotels but have forgotten they were hit by a horrible hurricane a few years ago and the economy isn't there to fix everything in one big swoop. So be patient. The rooms are clean, the staff is fantastic and the pools are very clean. The beach is quiet and beautiful. The activities director is very nice and the kids have a great time with her activities. Definitely a family atmosphere...young and old. If you want excitement, Daytona Beach is a five minute drive down the road. It's about an hour from Orlando and it's hot spots...I will return again and again to Plantation Island!

We just returned from a week at Plantation Island. I must say from the previous reviews, I was expecting the worse possible place but it wasn't bad. We had a two bedroom that was very spacious (except for tiny kitchen). It was clean and we enjoyed ourselves. The only complaint I have is there are no balconies in the high rise, but the windows do open so you can still see the beach and hear the ocean. Staff was very cordial and attentive to our needs. The sofa and chairs are a little worn, but not too bad. The floors were clean, the bathrooms were very spacious and were clean. No complaints from us about cleanliness. Very convenient to restaurants. Be sure to eat at the Peach Valley Cafe on Granada. Really good food.
Just don't go expecting a fancy upscale place and you won't be disappointed. I would return there.

this was the second time we stayed here. The first time was bad, this time was unbelieveable. The rooms were dirty, lots of ants, carpets very dirty, the kids feet were black after playing on them. The couch and chairs very dirty. I can't believe this is a RCI resort. You couldn't pay me to go back there. The rooms need alot of work.

I was staying with my parent's in a 2 BR/2Bath suite.
The first thing we noticed was how run down the resort is. The couch+chairs looked tired and dirty around the edges.
The bathrooms did not feel very clean. Toothpaste was splattered on the sink backsplash. There was soap/dirt build up behind the taps. The showers tiles had been repaired many times but not very well and the grout was black or pink with mould.
The toilet seat was missing parts and the paint was peeling off. (Could be made to look much better for less than $10!)
Only four plastic hangers in the closet.
The kitchen was well equiped but the glasses and cutlery didn't look too clean and there was a two inch cockroach roaming there on our first morning!
The courtyard pool was a nice temperature but there is a sort of brown ring around the pool that has obviously been there a long time and the pool needs to be drained and acid washed.
The hot tubs had a great location looking over the beach but they were in need of serious updating and only 2/3 were working. When you turned the jets on it sounded like you were being fried alive!
Also the pool heater exhaust is directly below one of the second story suite's window that opens! This is a serious carbon monoxide risk!
One of the gazebos has a piece hanging off it with exposed wires.
The ceiling above us was so squeeky we could hear every foot step and were woken up every time someone upstairs took a step. It is not a well constructed building.
Overall the entire resort needs updating and maintaining.
The staff were excellent, sweet and accommodating. The Activity Director was very nice. They tried to have some activities to do but mostly they consisted of children's crafts and make your own sundaes.
The entire Daytona Beach area is really old and tired and there are many resorts that are just completed condemed. It was a depressing area!
The beach is gorgeous but I won't be going back to that area.
