My family just spent a little over a week at the Orlando Grande Vista. My perspective is from someone who has stayed at lower end hotels to the Ritz Carlton in Washington, the Southampton Princess in Bermuda, as well as the Marriott Canyon villas in Phoenix (three weeks ago).

Our problem was with the bath water. It wreaked!!!!!! It wasn't subtle, it just smelled really bad and this is what prompted me to write a review.

My feeling was that it was not a problem with my specific room's water but was a problem with the whole resort. I had a facility engineer inspect it and he verified my complaint and agreed with my theory saying that some resorts invest in osmosis or reverse osmosis processes to clean up their water but that this facility didn't. He also said that the water in Florida, in general, isn't very good. I later found that not to be true. We were going to move on to another hotel but we checked the Crown Plaza down the street and the water there, while slightly better, was still a problem. So we ended up staying at the Grande Vista except for the end of our stay.

I know we're not crazy. We spent a night in a Holiday Inn Express in Tampa and the water was fine and later, moved on to the Crown Plaza in Orlando by the airport and the water there was fine as well. the only other time I smelled water like this was at a hotel in Mexico.

As far as the other aspects of the stay, we stayed in a two bedroom villa. The rooms were very nice, the size of the rooms was generous, the furniture was in very good condition, the fact that there were two bedrooms was great and in general the grounds were also very well kept. It was a little older and a little smaller than the Grand Canyon Villas in Phoenix. The staff, for the most part, were very accomodating. I guess there is this corporate procedure where if you request some service, someone from another department calls you and asks if you were satisfied with the help you requested. I was very impressed with that.

The only other criticism, though much more minor was that there seemed to be a lot more leaves, etc. in the pool water than there perhaps should have been.

Though they bill this property as a 5 star property, no way is it in that class. I would say it's definitely 3.5 stars to maybe 4 stars. If you discount the bath water (hard for me to do), it was a very nice resort and we had a very nice time.

I went to Orlando for work/vacation combination, and stayed here instead of the designated convention property. I was extremely happy with my decision. The rooms were nice and clean. I was in building 93, which overlooked the Golf course and was not refurbished, but it was still well maintained and comfortable with all the amenities. The resort property is gorgeous, and it is in a great location close to all the attractions. The vacation starter pack is a nice touch. I even went to a timeshare presentation, and it was professional and low key. All in all, a grand place to stay.

This property is BEAUTIFUL. We stayed for seven days in June and we didn't want to leave. I requested one of the newer buildings (Ibiza) well in advance of our arrival and received it with no problems. We stayed in a 2bed/2bath unit and it looked as if we were the first to have stayed there. Everything looked brand new. Marble countertops in kitchen and both bathrooms, 1 king bed in masterbath with whirlpool, 25 inch flat screen tv with HBO and other cable stations, screened in balcony off of master bath and a patio off of 2nd bedroom. 2nd bedroom has 2 queen beds another flat screen tv and 2nd bathroom right next to it. The living room has a 35 inch flat screen and a couch (pull out sofa) and chair. Dining room and kitchen right next to the living room. I would say about 1400-1500 square feet all together. HUGE villa. The only "problem" we had was a torn screen in second bath and maintenance came 15mins. later and replaced the screen. Timeshare presentation was so low key and quite informative. We received $50 Universal dollars and $50 Marriott dollars. They said the presentation would last about 90 minutes but ours could not have been no more than 40 minutes. We have stayed at several Marriott properties over the years (Orlando's Cypress Harbour, Palm Desert's Villas II and Vegas Marriott Chateau) and I have to say next to Palm Desert's Villas this resort is (in my opinion) the best. The grounds are LUSH and well kept. We come to Orland just about every 2 years and this will be the only property we will stay it from now on.

We have visited Orlando several times, and have always stayed at Disney resorts. However, we were so disappointed with our accomodations last year at the Port Orleans, we decided to try something different. Best decision we ever made, particularly if you are traveling with children!!! I will never stay at another hotel on a vacation, and will always look for a Marriott timeshare whenever we are traveling!
We rented a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit from an owner (found her on the internet), and paid an incredible price for the week! The rooms were amazing, exactly as pictured on the website, and were huge. We not only saved a ton of money by sometimes preparing meals for ourselves at the resort; but we saved our sanity by havng plenty of room to spread out. The staff was always pleasant and friendly when you saw them. There was no pressure to purchase a time share (although you can opt to attend a presentation if you would like, and the gift you receive just for attending is VERY nice). The kids really enjoyed the pools with all of the little waterfalls and the large hot tubs! (My only regret is that there wasn't a slide or diving board at one of the pools. My kids love those).
It was a wonderful vacation, and I truly believe that our accomodations at the Marriott Grande Vista greatly contributed to this. Feel confident in choosing this resort. You will not be disappointed.

    • Tips/Secrets: — If you are shopping for a rental from a private owner, theith yearly maintenance fee is around $800.00 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath. Anything additional you pay is profit to the owner. Also, I would attend the timeshare presentation. It is very low pressure, short (about 1 1/2 hours), and we received $100.00 in Disney dollars and another $25.00 in Marriott dollars to spend during our vacation.

“What a Wonderful Place”

Marriott's Grande Vista

Jul 17, 2006

Just returned from spending a week at Marriotts Grande Vista resort. This was our first vacation in over 15 years and we could not have asked for a more wonderful place. We had a one bedroom villa that was spotless. It had a washer and dryer, stove, fridge and all the pots and pans and utensils you could need. The bed was extremly comfortable, huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub in the master suite. We had a top floor corner view over looking the golf course. We could see the firework display at Seaworld everynight from our balcony. It was less than a mile away. MGV has 4 beautiful pools, again, very clean.
The staff were excellent, very polite and helpful. There is a convenience store on site that stocks just about everything you would need, if not there is a Publix grocery store less that a mile away.Infact this resort is so conveniently located to just about everything. The Disney parks are only about 5-6 miles away.
Staying at MGV was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to get back there again, hopefully next year.
