“Great Disney Resort Alternative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Pros - Nicely landscaped and clean. Lots of space, 2-3 bedroom villas if need it, plus kitchen with washer/dryer, dining area, great workout facility, plenty of pool space/chairs and kids activities (paddle/electric boats, ping pong, pool & fuse-ball table, fishing in pond). Great looking golf course (associated with Nick Faldo). If you are a Marriott Rewards member, you can use your points for this facility. Fast check in and check out. Secret - on cooler days and morning/evening swims, the lap pool next to the baby pool and hot tub is heated. Staff brought around free ice pops by the pool in the afternoon. Nice little sandy beach with volleyball net for kids to play in.

Cons - Mostly minor/nit-picky. No poolside food/drink service (you have to walk up to bar to get food and drinks), walking paths are sometimes golf cart paths so be careful (dangerous when walking on them with small kids), marketplace entrance is where they sell the souvenirs (frustrating sometimes when trying to make a quick buy with kids in tow), pool music can be a little overwhelming for some, fish hooks on fishing poles are too big for the pond fish that are there, our condo was missing a skillet that never was brought when reported numerous times, some furnishings are a little worn, the sofa bed in our living room was sagging and needed replacing, the rooms next to/close by to the main lobby area will get a nice 6am wake-up service when the delivery trucks show up, only one elevator/building unit. Smoking is allowed on screened in balconies (not great when trying to enjoy sitting on patio next to cigar smoker).

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main check in are quieter.

This is a big resort on a beautiful golf course near Sea World. We stayed in a 2 bedroom / 2 bath villa overlooking one of the big pools and the lake. It's a busy place during spring break but there is a lot for everyone to do - several pools, a mini-beach by the lake, walking trails, spa, golf, tennis, etc. The villas are very high quality and the kitchen is fully stocked which makes cooking a good option. We had 2 balconies - one screened in, one not. And there is a washer-dryer in the villa. All in all, it was a great place to relax with our family and enjoy some sunshine.

Only a few negatives: first, the pool can be noisy during the day. Having balconies and rooms directly overlooking the pool was convenient but also very noisy. Second, one family member has food allergies and the hotel restaurants (high end as well as the cafes) didn't seem able to accommodate allergies. Staff didn't know what was in the food or simply said "don't hold us accountable if you get sick". That was surprising and a bit disappointing. But having the full kitchen made up for the inconvenience.

Room Tip: If you want a bit more peace and quiet, get a lakeside or golf-view room. If you want easy access t...

We had a studio unit with a small kitchenette, which was perfectly adequate for cooking. If the weather had been warmer, we'd have used the guest bbqs, too. We didn't use the pools because of the cold weather, but they sure looked nice and well maintained.

The room was clean, had an amazing view of the lake, and our experience was very nice.

I loved the fact that the resort sent a pre-arrival email to ask if we wanted golf-course or lake views, etc. In 18 years of doing time-share exchanges, I've never had the option--very pleased!

The outdoor pool table and ping pong were fun, but some type of wind block on the lake side (maybe a retractable wall as in conference rooms) would have allowed us to play in the really chilly, windy evenings when the tables set empty.

We wish the resort had a "food pantry" collection spot for all the time sharers to leave the food they can't use or pack to the local soup kitchens or food bank...but it seems that none of the resorts do this.

We enjoyed the one night of acoustic music provided by the resort, although the weather drove everyone inside. But, we would have liked more of that during the one-week stay--preferring to stay at the resort than to run into the park areas again. ( It was hard to find local pubs with local performers unless you drove to CityWalk or Disney...even the musician who performed couldn't recommend any little venues. (That's a location challenge, nothing to do with the resort, but if the resort could book more...voila).

Although we didn't have children, the resort seemed to have an excellent activities plan and room for kids.

We'd definitely go back to this resort when traveling in Orlando again.

The Marriott Grande Vista is a vacation club packed with things to do for children and adults. You can enjoy yoga, rock wall climbing, paddle boats, swimming, arts and crafts, cooking for kids and karaoke poolside. If you plan to visit Disney the hotel is just moments away. We went to the Park in the Morning, came back to the hotel for a swim and relaxed and went back to the park for a show and fireworks that evening. The following day we just enjoyed the Vacation Club.

The Marriott Grande Vista resort was clean, accessible, friendly, convenient and well maintained. Villa amenities were second to none and comfort was superb. With all restaurants and general store on property, my stay was relaxed while on business! I recommend highly to anyone looking for a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Reserve early and ask for your preference! Large resort so if you are looking for proximity to resta...

Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Great golf destination as we got the pkg with 2 free rounds of golf per night stayed which brought the price of the room fairly reasonable. Even with spring break it was quiet. Our room had a great view of the disney fireworks every night as we sat with wine in hand on the balcony. Would come back again!

Room Tip: Higher up and not over a pool to avoid the squeals of the delighted kids in the pools.

Mature and upscale property, everyone was pleasant and professional. V well run in all aspects. Extras like drinks v expensive even for hotels of this class. 12 dollars a glass of average wine, that type of thing, 15 for others. I'm probably not quite in their bracket after the downturn, so ill switch to bonnet creek Hilton. Though with regret as this place just great with pool and beds among best ever.
