“Timeshare Experience Gone Wrong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

This is really not a review of the Marriott property itself: beautiful grounds, clean units, and, especially for golfers, nice facilities. Our experience is based on arriving for a week using our Interval timeshare exchange. Based on availability and desire to see a bit of central Florida in mid-winter, we chose this property. It is close to Seaworld and a short drive to Disney World, but if theme parks aren't your thing, you also have easy access to the Interstate to go to other places that are, in my opinion, more authentic and interesting. Cape Canaveral wildlife areas and Kennedy Space Station, Daytona Beach, St Augustine, Tampa, and Ocala National Forest are some examples.

Checkin was efficient and courteous, but when asked the receptionist told us we had no kitchen in our unit, only a toaster and microwave. We were surprised because we have a 2-bedroom, 2 bath unit in Hawaii that allows us to exchange for similar units in Interval's system. We asked if they could upgrade us somehow to a unit with a kitchen, but Marriott told us they had no control over our booking and couldn't help us. I understand they didn't make the booking; it came from Interval's system. However, no traveler, especially at the end of a long travel day, likes to be told that the buck is being passed, and there's nothing to be done.

We went to our unit, and it was essentially a hotel room with a small sink area and counter to hold the toaster and microwave. There was a small fridge and we had a lake view, very nice. However, due to our disappointment, we didn't enjoy it very much, and called Interval the next day to get moved to another unit in another area with a full kitchen. This they did for us the next day and remainder of our week. In the meantime, I would say that, as a hotel room, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen area was convenient for coffee and light meals, and the overall property was very nice. Housekeeping costs were extra.

Just pay attention, timeshare owners, that if you choose Marriott Grande Vista and expect a full condo, you need to verify with your timeshare exchange service what kind of unit you are actually getting.

We are in a 3 bedroom unit. Nice unit - as expected. The main pools are very nice. Our rooms are in The Deville building and therefore are not near the main pools however our pool is beautiful as it overlooks the golf course. The golf course is great for those that golf. Near all the main attractions and plenty to do on property. All in all one of the better Marroitts to stay at. I recommend it. The only negative is the horrible wifi. While its nice that its free it is very very spotty.

We have stayed at this property several times and have always been pleased. It's a great place for families to stay as the rooms are spacious with a small kitchenette and the suites offer 2 rooms and a living room and kitchen. We have stayed in both.

The suites were ideal for us to give the little ones a nap during the day as the bedrooms are separate from the living area. So you don't have to worry about having tip tow around. You can relax and watch tv on the couch or make lunch while the baby's sleeping in the bedroom.

The property is big enough where you don't feel cramped or overwhelmed even if it is the busy season. As there are different pools and activities for everyone to do. And it's also close enough to the attractions to make it convenient.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were right by the pool and lake as requested. Lots of fun activities, especially if you have young children. Food and drinks were not great but the atmosphere made up for it. Rooms were ver good and clean.

Room Tip: If you have young children, it is great to be by the pool. All rooms have a great view and face the...

I don't know how The General manager, His executives, and the marvelous staffs continue to do it? The Grande Vista meets the test of time: Can you be consistently great time after time, year in and year out? The answer is a resounding YES they can! We've been coming here for probably 14 years, sometimes with family, sometimes with friends, sometimes just the two of us and most importantly, we're happy, proud, and confident when we bring clients here!
So what attracts us? There's an atmosphere of fun and excitement in the air, for sure. The grounds are meticulously maintained. The pools sparkling -- AND THEY ARE ALL HEATED OUTDOOR POOLS. The accommodations are spacious and modern. (many are being re-modeled) Free WiFi everywhere. Flat screen TV's. Super-fluffy towels. These all count in the tally, but what really sets this resort apart from so many others are the people who make all this happen. They are genuine and there when you need them. They appear mysteriously to help you light the outside grills, give directions and make suggestions, and so much more -- all with a REAL feeling of helping.
We went to Rick's and it was good. Ask for Gus and he'll make sure everything is to your liking.
The many cheerful "Grande Morning, Day, Night" wishes can't help but get you off on the right foot. We particularly enjoy the balcony for dining out, hanging out and star gazing. On the non-park days, there are lots of Grande activities to fill the days and nights, be sure to participate in the Iron Chef competition -- great family fun!
If we rated the Grande Vista as in the movie industry we would have to award them Oscars in the following catagories:
Best Director (General Manager)
Best Supporting Cast
Best Location
Best Fun
Best Resort
There is one thing we don't like though--Leaving. We hate to leave, but know it will just be a matter of time before we return.

This vacation club resort offers rooms/ suites to renters, but the resort is dominated by owners who are friendly and open to meeting renters and convincing them Marriott is the way to go. Based on this experience, I'd have to agree. It is excellent value for that quick golf getaway. There is a golf institute and 18-hole course right on site. Nice restaurants onsite and clean, clean modern facilities. Nice pools onsite, convenient market onsite. Beware of the sales pitch to own. It's very compelling and hard to resist!

Room Tip: We had a nice golf course view. Much quieter than poolside.
