We just returned from a week stay at the hotel. Last year we stayed at Marriott Horizons which we all agreed we preferred - nicer facilities, themed pirate pools with a big slide for the kids and you don't have to hike a long way to get to everything.

the Grande was nice but has sooo many people you have to wait forever to get a ping pong table etc. They advertise bike rentals but beware they only have quad bikes and they are only allowed on the road, therefore you are at the mercy of speeding cars and most of the riding you do is in parking lots! The lake is tiny so the boat rentals are nice but you can canoe around it in about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace (why do they say it's large with boats of all sizes?). The setting is lovely though.

Rooms were nice and fairly well equipped in the kitchen. Just bring your own coffee filters as they don't have any available. We had multiple problems with the toilets, microwave and fridge. The washer/dryer were ready to pack it in too. They did arrive to fix things quickly although they ended up getting us a different (also old) fridge after three tries. It left us feeling they wait for guests to tell them what's wrong and then they fix it rather than scheduling any maintenance work.

The setting is lovely though and we enjoyed being away from the highways. The staff who are supposed to be knowledgable about tickets and places to visit are really only interested in selling you a timeshare - all of their conversations edge towards this topic no matter where you start (e.g. gatorland) so be prepared. There are computers you can use though which take dollars.

You won't be making a mistake staying here, especially if you want to go to the parks. Sea world is very close. There is a grocery store nearby too. Security is quite laid back - nobody stopped us or visiting friends anytime we came or went so I would make sure your doors and windows are locked - as they should be anyway.

    • Liked — proximity to parks, golf on site, setting
    • Disliked — everything is breaking! line-ups for facilities

“Cold Showers”

I reccommend that you check for hot water in your villa before you get unpacked. We first realized that we did not have hot water in the villa the morning after we checked in. 10 phone calls later the problem still was not resolved. It was very frustrating taking cold showers every morning. This is a beautiful resort, and if you check into a villa that does not need any maintenance you will probably have a great stay. On the other hand, if you check into a villa that needs maintenance you are probably going to be a bit frustrated. It was like pulling teeth to get the staff to get our issue fixed, and when we left there was still cold water in the shower.

Incredible! We had a gorgeous view across the lake to the lighthouse, enjoyed the lighted fountain every night! The palm decor was gorgeous, scruptious drapery & carpets, granite slab counters, comfy beds, and a huge, heavenly jetted tub! Everything was very clean, we did have to ask for a vaccuum-- vital for a week-long stay. The kids loved the sandcastle themed pool, the kids play area, and the swan & duck pedal boats. A blissful week!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The classy decor, granite counters, the lake view and fountain, the cleanliness.
    • Disliked — The lack of vacuum, the older kids in the little kid play area, the constant calls from the Spa.

I got a great deal through the Marriott Vacation Club International for a 4-night stay in a nicely furnished one-bedroom villa (based on a sales call I received earlier in 2007). The location is excellent--near the major roads, but no noise from the highways. The mandatory sales presentation (to join a Vacation Ownership Program) was even somewhat pleasant, though it lasted 3 hours, even after I was told it would last only 90 minutes. One other complaint is that the resort offers no possibility for recycling. I had to take my newspapers, cans, and bottles to downtown Orlando.

I absolutely LOVED this hotel/timeshare. This hotel is SO close to Disneyworld. It was absolutely perfect. We loved it. The sales pressure was not really hard. We took the phone off the hook, and that was fine. I LOVED THIS RESORT!
