We stayed in a Disney resort for 6 days prior to checking in to Clarion (to be nearer to Universal). We were afraid that after being pampered by the great service at disney, our expectations would be raised, and be disappointed by other hotels subsequently. Oh... we were wrong... cos we received EXCELLENT service from EACH and EVERY staff. It is in fact a better value to be staying in Clarion than in a Disney Value resort.
From the time of reservations, the sales staff have been helpful in answering my queries prior to booking. All front-line staff from the reception, to tour desk, to bell service, to housekeeping, to breakfast/deli counter have delivered quality service to make us feel welcomed and our stay exceptional.
Also to commend on the hotel's quest for feedback after our stay to improve on their service - few hotels actually does that nowadays.
We stayed for 3 nights over Memorial day weekend, pre-cruise. This property definitely shows the wear in public places and rooms, but is acceptable. The room was thoroughly cleaned, fresh smelling sheets and pillow cases daily. We absoultely love the area, within SAFE walking distance to many restaurants and Wet & Wild. The most important feature we look for in a property is safety, and you need NOT worry here. The location is excellent to Universal. We booked it through Hotwire for $54/night, and definitely feel we got a great bargain. The front desk advised us to try and book through their vip section of their website, but I fell you can still do MUCH better through hotwire or priceline. The little shop is very convenient and has a good variety of snacks and drinks. I would DEFINITELY stay again.
I consider myself a budget traveler and not at all picky about hotels, however I was very disappointed with the Clarion and would not stay here again. The lobby was nice but the rest of the hotel is crappy and unclean. The room was clean for the most part but I felt like i couldn't walk around barefoot without feeling grossed out. Also, the shower sucked - crappy pressure & not enough hot water - which is a real bummer when you come home after a long day walking at the theme parks.
The thing that made me the most furious was when we asked for a cab to the airport and a shuttle showed up (15 mins late). Well when we got to the airport the driver wanted $58!!!!! Ridiculous, (we paid a fair $36 on our way to the hotel so this was a clear rip off). We refused to pay that and after arguing for 20 min with the driver ended up paying $40. Point being, it's obvious the hotel & shuttle are in cahoots together and you'll get screwed if you let the hotel do anything for you.
My husband, young daughter and I stayed here for 4 nights. Hotel is located at the top end of I-drive, near Universal Studios and Wet n Wild. Personally I would prefer a hotel nearer SeaWorld which is the other end of I-drive.
The hotel is in need of a refurb. The exterior looks glum. Reception was clean as was the room. We stayed in a room which had 2 queen beds, tv, hairdryer etc. Bathroom was a reasonable size and clean.
The carpet in the corridors was well worn and threadbear in some areas.
We used the pool and water was very warm. Nice pool with free towels for residents to use. There was also a jacuzzi which was very pleasant.
