i'm a native floridian, so i have lived her almost all my life. for all of you visitors to disney world. this is a very nice hotel with thatched roofs and tiki torches linning the paths. all disney resorts are first rate, but here, you get what you pay for. the disney resorts all run from dirt cheap (at least with a florida resident pass) to very expensive. the polynesian is a middle of the road kind of hotel as far as disney is concerned..... you will have no complaint with the layout of the "huts", or the cleanliness of the rooms. the rooms are fairly spacious, as far as resort rooms go..... you also get cable tv with free disney channels for the kids. the pool area is nice and well maintaned and there is a lifeguard on duty all day. baby sitting service is available, as is room service (although pricy). the lobby is clean and exotic with an atrium and wild birds. i can't say much about the resturaunts as we didn't eat there. but the decor looked nice........
look, if you are looking for cheap disney accomadations..... try the "all star" music, movies, sports...... cheap, small, but clean and adequate for the budget traveler, and best of all has all the priviledges of the more expensive resorts. free parking and free buses (or the monrail depending on your hotel, and yes the polynesian has monorail service) that go to all the disneys resort sites like disney village, pleasure island, typhoon lagoon, blizzard beach, river country, epcot, mgm studios, magic kingdom...animal kingdom....etc..... all disney resorts have the same bus service and run all day at about 10 to 15 min intervals. and best of all if you stay at a disney resort, you can get into all the attractions earlier than non guests..... who can complain about that? beat the lines in peak tourist seasons by going early in the morning before the parks get busy. while i think the higher end disney resorts and all disney gift shops are grossly overpriced, you can't find fault with the quality. disney is without a doubt one of the best run organizations in the world. once you have walked down main street at the magic kingdom.... you'll know what i mean. everything is so clean. and if you have the time, take the behind the scenes tour, it blew me away....... well, i don't know what else to tell you... i have been to disney approximately 8 times and still discover new things. while bargains can be found while booking a room depending on what you want to pay.... and the time of year, (my fav is right before christmas, nobody there)you will still get screwed price wise at the gift shops. $3.00 for a small bottle of water and something like $8.00 for a simple lunch.... well, over all it is worth it. and hey, it is disney...................enjoy!

My daughter and I spent a long weekend at the Polynesian in late July.

Our travel agent recommended this resort, since we already stayed at the Contemporary. We found it hard to try another resort since we did like the Contemporary from past visits.

We thoroughly loved this resort. Very tropical and once on the property away from Disney, you did not feel like you were near any amusement area. There is a beach to lounge on (no swimming allowed), 2 large pools,
(one for the kids, the other for adults or quiet swimmers). Hawaiian music is piped in around the property too.

The hotel staff was very polite and helpful when needed. We ate at O'Hana's that our agent recommended and the food was GREAT. If you plan to eat here, call before you leave to make reservations or you may end up getting a later reservation if you are lucky. When we went, we were unable to change our reservation by even a half/hour because they were solidly booked for the evening.

The hotel is walking distance to the Grand Floridian, which in the evening is a nice walk in the summer and it's very peaceful.

After spending a wild day at the parks and rushing from ride to ride, you
can always relax back at the Polynesian. Or just grab a monorail around the lake and get off at the Floridian and walk back to your hotel. Lots of ideas you can come up with when you have time to relax here.

Our room was near the adult pool and was adequate for the time we spent in it. Usually fell alseep once we got into bed. The room was average with hawaiian decorations but just average. No frills. We were on the first floor facing a garden view, but it was sooooo hot, we didn't care to sit out on the patio when we could stay in our coooool room, or take a swim.

Try it, you shouldn't be disappointed. The hotel was full when we were there, but we did not feel the crowd at the resort or early in the morning eating breakfast. Food there for breakfast is average. scrambled eggs,
toast, cereal. Not much you can ruin there. There is a character breakfast offered in the main restaurant... did that before and anything Disney hosts,
is great with those characters.

Have fun. Would stay here again. Always thought the Contemporary was great, but now I'm sold on the Poly.

“High Priced But Worth It For Convenience”

Disney's Polynesian Resort

Overall our stay at the Polynesian was great. You couldn't beat the convenience using the monorails to other resorts if you had meal reservations or the express monorail at the TTC to the parks. It was just a short walk to the TTC from the Poly. We were there in July the peak hot season, so if you are bringing children, be prepared to spend more time at the hotel pool than at the themeparks. The heat/humidity is overbearing for the children. I do recommend bringing your own mister fans, because the ones they sell in the parks are 15.95. You can get one at your local Walmart for $4.95 - believe me, you will use it. I regret not getting a room closer to the ceremonial house. We stayed in Tahiti, which is a newer longhouse, but it was a trek. I do have to say the rooms were very large, it accommodated 3 adults and 2 children with no problem, we didn't feel cramped at all. The Kona Cafe was a great place to grab breakfast, it was reasonably priced. The kids loved the Neverland club, they wanted to stay longer when we came to pick them up. I would stay at the Poly again, just not in July. You can't beat the convenience.

My family and I stayed at the Polynesian April 29th through May 4th and we loved everything except the price. This was our second stay at the Polynesian since October 2002 and it felt like we were visiting a old friend when we finally walked into the lobby. My family and I would stay there three times a year if we could, but with the price Disney charges for the vacation you have to win the lotto first! Don't get me wrong I really loved the Polynesian, it's staff, theming, transportation, and the food choices. It's just so expensive, that it takes the fun out of the vacation when it's time to pay the bill. Just be prepared and keep telling yourself "I'm on vacation"and you will be ok.

Disney is pricing themselves out of the regular family market with the prices for the Poly and I don't mind paying $250 a night, but $400 a night is just to much to justify. It's a shame because it's such nice place to stay and Disney is really getting tight with the discounts. They used to be everywhere but are getting hard to find. If I ever book another trip to the Polynesian I going to see what AAA can do, discount wise. You call Disney direct and you will be paying rack rates, (full price) YIKES!!

If you want a vacation that you can look back on with fondness and good memories, then the Poly is for you! I've stayed at other resorts that are further away from the Magic Kingdom and it's a pain to wait for a crowed bus. Nothing beats taking a monorail back to your resort when you need a break and the boat service is pretty good also. The Polynesian is a beautiful resort that is laid back and doesn't feel stuffy at all. I think people mistake the resort for the Four seasons because of the price and get disapointed by the laid back feel to it.

Bottom line, Disney is expensive and if you want to stay in a Disney classic like the Polynesian then be prepared to spend. My family and I will always treasure the times we stayed at the Poly and maybe one day we will be back. Every family who loves Hawaiian theming and Disney, should try the Polynesian at least once in their lives. Try the Tonga toast at the Kona cafe for breakfast and book a reservation for O'Hana's at night! Get a window seat if you can, the view is beautiful.

When you read this review you must realize that I am the pickiest person who ever lived when it comes to motels. One hair, one stain, one odor, and I go crazy! I also expect 5 star service for a low price....so keep that in mind when you read this. To start, I wasn't even going to stay on Disney property when I visited Disneyworld-I was going to stay somehwere else (cheaper) in Orlando. But my friend insisted we stay at one of the big three (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian) because of the luxury, convenience, and location. I am so glad I did. The transportation to/from the airport was free and convenient. And boy do I love the Polynesian. It was immaculate. The bathroom, everything, just spotless. The grounds were well kept. The mattresses were wonderful and after walking all day, it felt so good to sleep and I did sleep like a baby. The place was quiet, the food was super, everything was just first class. The staff was helpful and accomodating. The monorail saved so much time and energy when visiting the parks.......They are always saying, Have a magical day, and this was a magical trip and the Polynesian played a part...trust me, it was worth every penny and I would stay here again (I have considered the Grand Floridian....it would cost more but looks beautiful). There are some things worth paying for and this is one of them. I don't mind paying when everything is perfect. And that is coming from the pickiest tourist who ever lived!
