Overview: It seems there is very limited information on the internet of value regarding lodging at Disney World. There are several theme hotels on the property. They are best reached from the airport by taking the Disney bus shuttle. Although the bus may make a few stops, the time is worth it as you get a sense of the vastness of Disney World. The hotel is contemporary in theme. There are three buildings the main, high rise and two secondary 4 (?) story adjacent buildings. One of the buildings was closed during the trip for remodeling. Huge lake behind the hotel. Property appears to have been updated last couple of years. Two restaurants a 24 hour grill small coffee bar, separate bars in each of the restaurants and limited shopping on the property. Two large outdoor pools. Well equipped gym with massusse.
The Good: make sure to get a room in the main tower as the rooms with a lake view have a small balcony and great view.
The California Grill is in the hotel and you can go up early and eat in the bar if you do not have a dinner reservation. The rooms are decorated quite nicely in earth tone contemporary style. There is a large flat screen tv, couch and great bathroom. There is a business floor that serves a great breakfast. May be worth the extra, especially if you have a family. Transport to other hotel locations via boat on the lake and the metro line which passes through the hotel.
The Bad: I was there to attend the Disney Institute for customer service and leadership. This raised my expectations of what I would expect in this hotel. Arrival desk was neutral, with very few personnel. Room was in outer wing, quite a hike. Not recommended if you have a walking problem..but then why are you at Disney?
I booked a room months in advance requesting a king ns room. Was told there were none available. Received a double queen room. Pulled back the covers, and the bed had not been made!!!
First time I have ever experienced this, and certainly did not expect it here. Moved to other bed. AC made so much noise I could not sleep. Had to argue with guest "services" to get another room. Packed up (11PM) went to main desk for key.
Had to explain all to desk clerk. She indicated that guest services assigned me another double room, except in the main building. So much for customer service I remarked. As I had chatted the desk clerk up on arrival (she was from Singapore and I have friends there) she found a king room with a lake view on the 10th floor. So much for the "Guest Services" section of the hotel. Great room, even if it had only one small bar of soap the entire five days I was there.
In a nut shell customer service in this hotel is sadly lacking. Even at the group dinner, water was not served. At first I thought it was me, but everyone in my group experienced the same lack of customer service. Was it because we expected too much? If the hotel staff attended the Disney Institute customer training they must have failed. Only on the last day did we see senior management giving us a goodbye greeting.
For the price point of $200 this hotel compares with other business properties in the U.S.
The Ugly: Most of the tv is restricted to Disney owned stations.
