“OK hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014 via mobile

A nice hotel in relation to the parks. If you plan on spending any time in the room other than sleeping I would recommend a bigger room. VERY cramped for a family of 4 with all the luggage. Although clean, the room was dark, musty and tiny. Next time we will upgrade

My family and I spent the last 7 days in this hotel. The views are very nice and the room was ok. We stayed at the Jamaica section of the hotel which is 5 min walk to the food court (old port royale). There was a problem with the room above leaking water thru our ceiling and was fixed in a couple of hours. Very friendly staff in general, in the hotel and also in the Disney's parks. The only suggestion we had was regarding the food... In parks and in the hotel was not really that good... It is needed more variety....change it at least a couple of times a week...also is pricey for what is served.

We enjoyed our stayed anyway and it is a resort where we certainly come back.

My kids and I loved this hotel! The town center was definitely the best part, and the fact that we were in the closest building near it (Martinique) was a bonus. We could easily get up in the morning and walk over for breakfast and it only took it a minute or two. The food court was excellent. There were lots of choices. We loved the convenience of the wristbands that served as our room keys, park tickets, fast passes, and room charge card at all Disney properties (they are waterproof so you never have to take them off, even in the pool or shower, making them less likely to get lost than the card keys and tickets).

The only minor down side I could see was that they don't have elevators and we were on the second floor, so if you have trouble taking stairs be sure to request a first floor. I imagine if we weren't in a building that was close to town center we may not have found it as convenient as we did, but we got lucky and loved our room location. The main pool was beautiful and my kids loved it. Apparently each "village" has a smaller pool, but we never looked for ours--we always used the main pool because it was so close.

The room we stayed it had the Disney feel. It was Nemo themed, and there were hidden Mickey's to find. The shampoo/conditioner bottles were just adorable! They had Mickey ears for the lid! It wasn't a luxury hotel, but it was clean, comfortable and fun, which is all we needed.

Room Tip: Request a building that is close to the Town Center, and if you have trouble with stairs, request a...

This is a resort hotel, not a high rise. Those who leave negative comments about the size should have done their research before booking. The information on theDisney web site makes it very clear that this is a large RESORT. We stayed in Jamaica this time, Aruba last time. Both of these areas are about a 5-10 minute walk from Port Royal, where the food, gift shop and entertainment is located.

Check in was efficient and the staff very friendly, I asked at check in if they had a lake view room and this was accommodated. We were advised that the room that they were moving us to did have some building work going on around it as they were refurbishing the area, but the mention of queen sized beds swayed me. We were very pleased, had we not been told about the building work I would never had known, the noise was minimal and only noticeable during the day if we cam back from the parks and then only because we were looking out for it.

Jamaica has now been fully refurbished, I believe and they were starting work on Aruba as we left, we were fortunate to stay in an up graded room, I'm not sure how long the quality of the refurbishment will last as this seemed compromised in places, for example the bathroom tiles have been painted rather than replaced. However, the beds are all new and are now Queen sized, the Mattresses are very comfortable and the carpets are all new. In addition the Nemo theming has been replaced with cream walls, white linen and dark wood furniture, which definitely give it a more contemporary feel. The mini fridge worked fine, it does take a Good 24 hours to cool fully, and ice does build up if you stay longer than a week, but nothing to detract from the convenience of having a fridge.

The gift shop in Port Royal has a small grocery section, selling bread, bagels and a small selection of pastries that you can have for breakfast along with cold fresh milk. There is a toaster and microwave provided at the rear of the food hall, should you want to reheat items or make toast. Butter, jam and honey is provided complimentary. We ordered a supply of groceries from Garden Grocer and these were delivered very efficiently to the hotel just before our arrival. You can order water, beer, cereal and fresh fruit and snacks. This saved us heaps of money on drinks in the park and ensured we had a supply of healthy food too.

On that note... We had the quick service dining plan, and the food in the parks is much better than it was two years ago, although you do need to do a bit of research before hand as some quick self service locations are better than others... All american diner does a nice steak, fries and broccoli and Tomorrowland. Terrace do a couple of nice salads. Typhoon Tilley's at Typhoon Lagoon do a lovely shrimp and strawberry salad.

The magic bands worked fantastically, be sure to customise them before you leave home and add your fast passes, this can be done 60 days before you depart. We purchased the Disney Memory Maker and we left after 2 weeks with almost 500 fabulous photo memories - a definite must do for us, and I would highly recommend it.

Fastpasses are great if booked before you leave home, not many left on the day, although you can change and amend them subject to availability through the my Disney App on your mobile phone. The best fastpasses for value in terms of time saved per party are - Test Track in Epcot, Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom, Kai water rapids in Animal Kingdom and Tower of Terror in Hollywood studios. You can fastpass many of the shows and parades however in my opinion these are easy to access in stand in line and are bit worth using a fastpass.

The best place to watch the nighttime parade and wishes show in Magic Kingdom is the Sleepy Hollow cafe, get there for 7.30 and eat or have a drink, sit by the railings, the parade comes over the bridge and no one can stand in front of you so you have an uninterrupted view. Due to the large trees it's not great for the fireworks but you have 5 minutes after wishes has finished to make your way (via Caseys corner and through the shops) to the top of Mainstreet this gives you an excellent view of the fireworks and means you are ahead of the rush to get out of the parks after the fireworks. The best spot to watch the illuminations at Epcot is between Canada and England as this area is much quieter and has some benches if you get there early enough.

The resort buses are excellent and although they go around the 6 Islands of the Caribbean beach before departing for the parks, they are quicker than finding a parking space and getting the train from the parking lot to the theme park entrance. With one exception we got a seat (family of 4) every time.

Taxis are reasonable we went to Universal $40 including tip' Florida Mall $38 and the outlet $42, we did do this from Downtown Disney each time not the hotel, as it's slightly cheaper and we usually stopped off to eat - Woolfgang Puck is great value on the Dining Plan.

The hotel and all of the parks have free wifi, Animal Kingdom connection wasn't great but the rest were fine, with no connectivity issues at all.

Room Tip: Jamaica and Aruba are close to the centre without incurring a preferred location fee

Five of us went on the trip my husband and I my daughter & her husband & their 9yr old son, our grandson we had the most wonderful time. The grounds were gorgeous the dining at Port Royale was excellent. We loved the food the portions were plentiful the staff were friendly & so helpful. Room Tip: The rooms were very clean & quiet we had a corner suite, which was right next to our daughter &a...

We stayed in Jamaica which is a great location and rooms are being redone. Construction was not an issue. Loved the room look, reminded me of room decor at Animal Kingdom Kidani Lodge. Jamaica is just across bridge from restaurants, etc. great property in moderate range.

Room Tip: Request Jamaica

I go to Disney World almost every year. I have stayed at Polynesian, Contemporary, All Stars, Port Orleans and Pop Century... and this year thought we'd try Caribbean Beach. Let me tell you, although the landscaping is very nice, stay at Pop Century. It took 8 minutes, walking briskly, to get to the main area where the food court is. Not great when you really want a quick bite at 7 am and it's already 85 with a humidity index of swamp.
There were no perks to staying here, AT ALL. I love Disney World, and will continue to try to make my annual trek, but Pop Century is hands down the most convenient, and equally as nice hotel.

Room Tip: pay the extra if you're staying here to be in a room near food court
