I arrived a little before 4pm to discover a long line of disgruntled people at registration. Turns out they had tried to check in earlier but had been told to return at 4 because no rooms were available. I was happy about my good timing until I finally got up to the desk and was told no room was available for me. (?!) They gave me a free drink coupon and said they'd call my cell phone when one was available.
During my wait, I asked at Guest Services about the best way to get to the Cirque du Soliel show. The staff there were unfriendly and seemed more interested in talking to each other. After a while, I saw there was no line (finally) at registration, so I asked if a room was available and was told one was. Were they going to call me?? I found out later that they were overbooked, and that some people were put up in other hotels, despite confirmations in hand. Not cool. I'm glad I was assertive and asked about a room before they called me.
The room was nice, but lacked an ice bucket & "do not disturb" sign. The "hot" water in the bathroom sink never got warmer than lukewarm. The bathtub was clean I suppose but stained. The fan in the bathroom had a really annoying, loud rattle to it, but that came in handy to block out the noise when I was trying to sleep (see below). I don’t think the A/C worked right. I'm someone who's always cold, but I had the thermostat set at 65F (normally, that'd make me freezing), and I was always kind of warm in the room .
Up on the floors, there were no signs on the walls pointing the way to the elevators or to the sections of numbered rooms. Hallways branch off at various locations, so you might get lost until you get your bearings. The hotel has a section that is a round building that is open all the way up in the center, with a waterfall at the bottom where Outback Steakhouse is. Any noise down below or in the hallways along there really echoes, and I think the people down below in Outback have to talk loudly to be heard over the water. Rooms in this area can be noisy.
Also, FYI, they're still doing renovations, and you "may experience construction noise and interruptions in water service between the hours of 9:00am and 6:00pm," as their note said. I heard some muffled, intermittent banging, saw some construction workers throughout the day, and saw some plastic taped to the floor in one section. It wasn’t a problem for me.
But overall, not what you'd expect from this caliber of hotel, and the check-in fiasco was completely unreasonable.
