“Don't stay on the first floor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

Let me start off by saying the picked this hotel based off of the reviews on trip advisor. We checked in and were given a room on the first floor. Immediately upon entering the room it smelled really musty and felt really dirty. The fridge and oven had rust all over them, the couch was old and raggedy, the door knob in the bathroom was falling off, and the phone didn't work. We immediately asked for another room. We were put on a higher floor and the room was better. Still not up to the expectations I had based off of reviews but we managed. Would I stay here again? Probably wouldn't be my first choice...the staff was friendly and the hotel is in close proximity to all of the things we needed, but the cleanliness wasn't up to par. The bathroom smelled like just and mildew and everything was old. I hear they are renovating which would be great because it needs it bad! Otherwise, ok stay for the money

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher floor. The pool traffic on the first floor leaves rooms dingy and run down...

Let me start off by saying that even though the rooms were a bit outdated (I'd like to point out that they are currently remodeling their units for completion in Dec 2013), this was a great bang for our buck! I stayed in the Sonesta ES Suites with 2 other families for a long weekend. We were having a bit of trouble finding a hotel that could accommodate all of us in one unit with space. Not only did the 2 bedroom suite grant us that wish, but there was room to spare. There was a pull out sleeper sofa in the living room (although I must warn you that the mattress in our particular suite was thin and needed some TLC), a fully equipped kitchen (with CLEAN plates and silverware), spacious bathrooms and clean furniture that albeit aged was still in one piece. What impressed us the most was the courtesy of the staff. We were greeted by such an amazing employee (can't remember her name at this point) that it set the tone for the rest of our stay. She enrolled us in the Travel Pass Program which helps you earn free nights, room upgrades, priority reservations, and more...which is going to work out well as this is our new go-to-hotel when we visit the Universal Parks. The breakfast is also great! By far, one of the best free complimentary breakfasts I've ever had while staying in Orlando. They had a mix of hot breakfast items (scrambled eggs, cheese omelets, corned beef hash, etc) and cold items (variety of cereal, yogurts, pastries, etc), and the items varied everyday so you always had something different to choose from during your stay. The constant were the waffles that had whipped cream, strawberry, and syrup topping choices. Make sure you wake up early though because even though there is plenty of food - the breakfast is a big hit and the lines can get long (especially by the waffle machines). I can't give much of an opinion on the pool as we didn't go in, but I can say it looked great. Another fun plus to this hotel is the location - we were bored when we arrived (as we would be going to the park the following day) so we had to look for something fun to do. Well, Pirates Cove Mini Golf is right across the street! There are also plenty of restaurants in the area as well as a market in the event you're missing something that you can't seem to find in the hotel's gift shop. This is a definite must stay! Don't expect luxe accommodations, as again - the rooms are currently out dated, but do expect a great bang for your buck!

Chose this for visiting Universal theme parks. Well equipped kitchen in suite and sumptuous complementary breakfast. We stayed 3 nights. Closer to many Indian restaurants. Easy access by public transport to malls and attractions. Reception and Concierge were very cordial and helpful. Pleasant view from room.

Booked a two bedroom suite for a family of 4, plus my parents. Both bedrooms had it's own bathroom. Kitchen adequately stocked. Living room was a decent size, until you use the pullout couch! It was difficult to walk around as it was positioned right in the center of the room. Definitely limited the access to the kitchen from one bedroom. Breakfast was decent. Good choice. Sloppy guests left pancake mix everywhere. Pool was nice and clean. Loved the kiddie pool.

Only thing that really bothered was the 1 inch gap under the front door. There was a hole in the wall in the walkway outside my room that lizards would go in and out of. I was convinced one would run right under the door into the suite! My vacation would've been ruined if that happened. I was so paranoid, my husband ended up putting a towel under the door every night. God knows if they were running in and out during the day...

All in all a nice hotel. Staying at another Sonesta this week. Will let you know...

The suites are well appointed (we had a 1 bedroom one) with a full kitchenette, sitting room with double sofa bed. Bedroom is spacious with en-suite & closet space. 1 bedroom would be tight & not so good with the one bathroom if we'd been 4. TV in lounge & bedroom. Room made-up daily to hi spec. The air con is effective. The suite was a little tired decor-wise & we had a slight damp smell. A suite refurb is in progress though. Not too big, so quite a personal feeling accommodation.

Free breakfast buffet is very good, though a bit bustly at peak times (from 0830-1000). Laundry room is very handy as is the well stocked wee shop. Staff are very efficient, polite and friendly. Pool & sun deck is quite small & busy but a good well-maintained area & free towels & beds are available. Bar is very friendly & a tad pricey but happy hours are 17-1900 & 2200-closing. Great location 2 blocks down I-Drive from Sand Lake Road, which is less garish and bustly than the upper drive. I-Ride stop south at the door & north over the road. Many fine eateries within 5 mins walk.

Room Tip: If more than 3 spend the extra & get a 2-bed suite.

Unbelievably Awesome, and it is only suppose to get better for they are renovating. Missy, Joanita, and EVERYONE were too nice. Honestly, the consistency of customer service is not typical.

Ok, lets admit it (for those of you like me who stay at hotels frequently) - problems happen. I had a little problem (poor TV reception). I called the front desk and before i hung up the phone w/ the front desk - someone was knocking at my door to fix it. They had placed me on hold and connected w/ their maintenance team via their internal 2way devices.

The service was outstanding all the way through my visit and w/ everyone in their team. WOW!

I recently stayed at a Higher End hotel in Naples, Fl - and that team can learned a lot from the team at Sonesta!
