“Good hotel however I will not return”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Not a bad hotel overall however it is really meant for the business traveller. Stayed over the Christmas break and it was OK, nothing spectacular, I wouldn't stay here again if I had a choice. The hotel is located quite a few miles from the parks however I figured that we got back to the hotel faster than those staying over in Kissimmee or International Drive.

The rooms were OK, however the hotel is very old and sure needs a good refurbishment.

Thank you and Happy New Year, we appreciate you choosing to stay over the very busy holiday season and yes, while we are predominately a business hotel our visiting families are always welcome. I was very worried, because the last patron listed this property as horrible. It was
anything but. It is true, they do charge for parking, but valet is only 3 dollars more than
self park, and they were very quick and pleasant.
The beds were really comfortable and the towels were big and fluffy. We did not eat
in the restuarant, but breakfast was fine. The buffet was only fair, but you could order
off the menu and that was okay.
What was really great was the shuttle that took us anywhere in a three mile radius and we used it for the two days we were there, going to their recommended restuarants which we really enjoyed.

Room Tip: ask for away from train side, although it really was not a problem, noise seemed far away. The one...

Unbelievably bad…and a very tired hotel.

We are H-Honors Gold and regularly stay at Hilton properties all over the world. This was our worst hotel experience ever. There was one little non-stop aggravation after another - and a few big ones too. We almost checked-out immediately…but we were tired and would remain tired from a long convention schedule. We SHOULD have checked-out because this place is totally dysfunctional… and it got worse and worse.

Does your package include free parking? Regardless, the garage is owned by somebody else and the communication system is bad. Get your credit card out and be prepared to chase down a $17 credit EVERY DAY. Nobody is responsible and nobody communicates. This is a totally stupid system – unless you want to pay.

The managers Matt and Steve are yes-men, and have zero follow-up. Two issues: 1) please fix the parking problem. EPIC FAIL. 2) Please put both hotels room charges on the same credit card. EPIC FAIL. When we finally got on the road, we called to check on the follow through. None. Steve said he would immediately email me an authorization to sign. I am back in my office…nothing. What a bunch of losers!

12th floor vending. No Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi
13th floor vending. Dollar bill reader broken

Need change for a soft drink? Too bad!
Lobby bar: ‘We don’t make change. Ask the front desk.”
Front Desk: “We don’t make change. Ask the bar tender.”

H-Honors happy hour on the 14th floor? Heh, heh… just pretzels! Are you serious? What a total waste of real estate. Maybe it used to be nice (it could be) but it is worthless now.

Now I am hungry AND thirsty.

Would you like to walk to a nearby restaurant for some dinner? Sorry, wrong hotel. There is NOTHING within walking distance - and now you have to do the parking garage dance again.

If you are H-Honors Gold or have a package, when you check in, you get “breakfast coupons” for the breakfast for each morning. Each coupon has been individually signed by a manager. There must some other internal nightmare they are battling and this is their attempt at a solution. Every other hotel in the world has a printed guest list. Can’t these people use a computer for ANYTHING? (See Parking lot fail above?) You cannot eat without flashing a coupon, but nor do they collect them. When we left, we still had more than half of them.

Everything in the hotel is tired. It is all old and well-worn. The furniture in our room (1201) is beaten up and there was a lot of caulk holding the bathroom together.

…and the trains? OMG! About every 90 minutes, all night long, the freight trains go by. This is right out of the movie “My Cousin Vinnie!”

It is my gut feeling that this is a disgruntled union-operated hotel. With the exception of the nice people running the breakfast (which was also quite good), nobody else in the entire building gives a damned about anything. Hilton should be ashamed of this one.

Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to share your thoughts and to sincerely apologize for for falling short of your expectations. It is embarrassing to have someone write a review as yours and it is the furthest impression we wish to have any of our guests leave with. The parking garage is a separate entity and while we are unable to control the price for parking we have researched all the downtown parking garages and found that this is the very low end of the scale for rates and we do disclose the fee on our website so it is not a surprise to our guests. With respect to the train, We wish that we could control the trains that run through the downtown area and unfortunately some engineers are more forceful than others when it comes to the use of the horn. With the approaching installation of the SunRail system there is a plan to designate the downtown corridor and make it a quiet zone, with changes to the lines on how to communicate to pedestrian and vehicular traffic that a train is en-route, believe us, we are all looking forward to that! We absolutely admit that the furniture condition in the guest rooms is something to be improved and unfortunately your stay came a few days too early as this morning the new guestroom furniture is arriving and being installed. We are happy to provide change for our guests, when we have it but there are times when the demand for change is high and the front desk and food an beverage teams run out of small change, it happens rarely but they have modest amounts to begin with, for safety purposes but we apologize for not communicating that better to do. It is our hope that you will share such experiences with the hotel team in the future so there is an opportunity to improve your quality of stay. If you still have any further comments or concerns please forward them to me directly so that I may address them. We do hope you would consider giving us another chance if you find yourself back in the area.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Banks

Stayed here October 2011. This was a good hotel on the edge of downtown, right off the interstate. Our room was quiet, no outside noise. Bed was comfortable, which is of high importance to me. Never ate in the restaurant/bar but it looked inviting enough. Also a small coffee shop in the lobby. The front desk has a supply of delicious warm cookies which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only reason they don't earn 5 stars from me is the steep parking prices. Otherwise, a very nice property.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here jan 2012 , good service from front desk very helpfull , lovely room , good pool and facilities but....

The bar staff are shocking , (black haired middle aged lady was , arrogant , rude , unhelpful.

Me and my girlfriend are 23 we got asked for ID we produced our UK driving licenses , she then asked me what are these? where does it show our DOB? , we are from the UK we invented English can't she read? Do you want me to do your job for you? We got the feeling we were an inconvenience for her

She put the brakes on our happy hour beers because we were obviously having a good time and she didn't like that , couldn't do any cocktails she was totally useless I would fire her if I was the boss.

I love this hotel but that one thing on our last night really angered me

We thank you for not forgetting about us and taking the time to post your review! A lot can change in 11 months and, as it happens, the bartender you mentioned is no longer with the hotel. We do hope, if you are planning a trip back to Florida this winter you will come stay again.

The DoubleTree Orlando Downtown is a very nice 4 Star Hotel with a good location near downtown but also not far away from the big parks. Rooms and service are outstanding and the noise from the interstate is almost not hearable inside the rooms. Only the proximity to the railroad is bothersome as the trains are really loud when driving through the city. All in all a place one would like to return to.

expense parking in parkade, try to find a parking space on the street. They give you warm cookies anytime you ask. No continnental breakfast. The front desk and cleaning staff were excellent. The hotel is in the middle of a large renovation, and will be nice when finished. Ask to stay on side away from the train. Runs alot and honks ALOT. Pool and hot tub nice and clean. Good it you have something to do downtown, otherwise a drive to an attractions.

Room Tip: ask for side away from the train tracks.
