BEWARE - we stayed in this hotel on our Honeymoon in 2009 and it was absolutely brilliant, spotless rooms, TV and fridge, adjustable bed etc, lovely bar and reception etc, so we booked again for August/September 2012.
On our arrival we were confused as the hotel looked completely different from our honeymoon hotel (The Orlando Metropolian Resort) but on entrance to the rather grubby reception, we were assured that there was only ever one Metropolitan Resort, so we paid our 2 week stay in full and went to find our room.
On the outside, it was exactly like a seedy 80s motel, peeling paint everywhere with dirty big tinted black tinted windows and curtains. As stated in other reviews the smell of dog/urine hit us straight away as did the flickering lights and water stains all over the plaster on the ceiling (check google pictures for images that previous guests had put up). The back of the door was disgusting, big black greasy marks all over. The last straw was when it took several attempts to flush the toilet. We went straight to reception and politely told the guy at the desk our concerns to be told "I wouldn't fancy staying here either, it's not a very nice hotel." We asked for a refund as I wouldn't let our 2yr old daughter sleep in such a filthy room and the guy at the desk said that he couldn't do refunds and to speak to Bill the Manager first thing in the morning.
We then walked to the building we recognised as our honeymoon hotel (on the same grounds) to find that the hotel we stayed in, then the Orlando Metropolitian Resort, was now a Radisson franchise with no connection to the shack next door! The impressive pictures of the metropolitan resort that come up in a google search are actually the Radisson, not the metropolitan resort. We booked in to the Radisson for the night and anxiously waited to speak to Bill the next day.
When we arrived to speak to Bill the next morning, we were horrified at his blasé "not my problem" attitude. We were calm and pleasant but he was undoubtedly the rudest man I have ever had the misfortune to meet. He said the Radisson had been the Radisson for the last 10 years, which was a blatent lie, because we had a frame photo of us standing outside it a huge "Orlando Metropolitian Resort" sign in the baxkground. He washed his hands of the situation and said that we needed to deal directly with booking.com, who acted as their broker when I was booking the accommodation, even though we paid them directly. He also mentioned that the guy we spoke to on reception the previous night was "lying" about not having the authority to process a refund.
Luckily booking.com were very helpful and arranged a refund, although we had to pay for the first night. They told me to go back to Bill to get the refund an hour later to give them time to make the arrangements. I returned an hour later as instructed and although Bill denied any contact from booking.com, he had already processed the refund. He had refused point blank to process the refund an hour earlier so there is no way he would have had the refund receipt ready and waiting for us, with the first night deducted, if booking.com hadn't organised it. We are not alone, please read from others on this site about their experiences with Bill.
I would like to finish by saying that we only wanted clean and basic - we certainly weren't looking for luxury, I would also like to stay that we have stayed in hostels all around Europe which were basic, but of a much higher standard.
We had thought the other people writing reviews were just impossible to please, but we were wrong. Please don't make the mistake of booking this "hotel" because it will ruin your holiday.
