But it was my fault. I should have thouroughly reviewed the hotel before booking.
We booked a trip to Disney and wanted to be fully immersed in the Disney experience. That got lost right away. So when thinking you can take the Disney Magical Express bus to the hotel from the airport, you'll be wrong. $100 round trip taxi, or rent a car ($80 for three days, like we did last minute). Then the hotel is nice enough to charge you for parking. $15 a day for self park, or $23 a day for valet. That extra charge sucks the magic away right off the bat too. Oh, and it's $15 a day PLUS tax. What?
Check in was complicated. I booked the Dolphin, my travel agent's email had the Dolphin as being booked, so we went to the Dolphin. No, it was the Swan. No big deal. Got to walk between the two hotels. Beautiful resort, but we were walking in a sea of suits in our tennins shoes and our WDW t-shirts. We sort of felt out of place. Lots of conventions going on with a lot of non-Disney guests. Again, my fault for not researching, but it is the DISNEY Swan and Dolphin to the vacationer's eye. Both hotels are beautifully decorated for Christmas, but omg, the chocolate smell from the Swan started to smell like vomit after the 4th day. :(
Room wasn't ready, no big deal. Check in wasn't until 4pm, got a call from them at 4:15p saying it was.
The room was awesome. LOVED LOVED LOVED the room. I could have lived there. The shower, the VIEW, holy cow, the view. Overlooked the Boardwalk and Epcot (watched Illuminations from my bed). AND THE BED! Probably THE MOST comfortable bed I have EVER slept in. Starbucks coffee and free water bottles in the room. Wow, excellent job on the room/amenities. If you turned down linen service, you got a free $5 coupon for most Swan/Dolphin restaurants. That was an awesome touch. We had a bottle of champagne brough up to the room; that was quick and easy. No loud noises from the hallways, neighbors, or sidewalks below.
Staff here were excellent. Very friendly, very accomdating. We used the Conceirge, room service, the front desk, the Disney ticket window. All were very helpful. The Dolphin has a 24 hour restaurant called Picabu, decent food, but it was the only option that didn't cost you an arm and a leg. And if you're staying at the Swan and wanted to eat there, yeah, you had to walk back and forth.
And again, each time we went downstairs, it was wading through the ocean of businessmen, feeling more out of place each time.
Transportation such as the boats and buses were all excellent. Loved the walkway to/from the Boardwalk/Epcot/Hollywood Studios.
Overall a decent stay, but I was expecting more of a WDW "feel". The limited transportation options to/from MCO, the daily parking charges PLUS TAX (who does that?), the mysterious $20/day Hotel Service charge, feeling out of place in DisneyWorld....just do your homework. If you want the WDW immersion at a hotel, just find one that's on Disney property. Wait.....
