We loved our stay at Fort Wilderness. Our family of five (kids ages are 7, 4 and4) had a cabin in the 2100 loop and things couldn't have been easier or more comfortable.
The best part of Fort Wilderness for us was that it was a great respite from the busyness of the Disney parks. It was so nice to return to our quiet cabin in the middle of the day and let the kids rest in their own bedroom. Even though there were people in the cabins around us we never had any problems with noise. The cabin was clean and housekeeping did a great job every day. The kids loved coming back to the cabin and finding the cute creatures that housekeeping had made out of the towels.

In reading other reviews, we've noticed that lots of people rent the golf carts. We personally didn't find them necessary at all. We walked one block to the bus stop and never waited more than ten minutes for a bus. The pool and the general store were about three blocks away.

Fort Wilderness offers great transportation to the Magic Kingdom via the ferry. Epcot is easily accessable from the Magic Kingdom. We didn't go to Animal Kingdom or MGM so we don't really know how long it takes to get from FW to either of those locations.

Trails End restaurant had a great buffet. Plenty of choices for everyone and all of it good. There was a snack/lunch shop set up by the pool that was great for quick lunches.

If you have kids, definitely take in Chip n' Dale's Campfire. Our kids loved meeting the characters and roasting marshmallows.

One of our nicest Disney experiences was watching the MK fireworks from the beach at FW. If you want to avoid the crowds and the chaos of getting out of the park after the fireworks, this is the way to go. The fireworks were proceeded by an electric light and music parade that came by on barges. Probably not as spectacular as the parade at Disney, but a great alternative.

As a final word, our best Disney advice would be plan, plan, plan. We were there in July, a very busy season, and because we had a plan we never waited in line more than 20 minutes. Most waits were less than ten minutes. Buy Bob Sehlinger's "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" and use one of his touring plans. If you are going to spend a lot of money going to Disney (and let's face it, it's going to be a lot of money no matter what you do), use your time there wisely and get the most out of the whole experience. We had an absolute blast!

RESERVE A GOLF CART!! You will need it. Bus transportation to the cabint loops suck!! But the golf carts are great, your kids will love them. This was one of the best Disney properties I have stayed at. You could spend a week just at Ft. Wilderness without going to the parks. We stayed 4 nights 5 days in 2 cabins and did not get to due everything we planned at Ft. Wilderness. Our cabin needed some repairs and a good cleaning, house keeping was disapointing, found coffe maker with used bags in it, they did not restock supplies or clean well on some days. Other than that the cabin was very nice, Disney limits you to one car per cabin and there is no other parking in Ft. Wilderness, this is a good thing, very little traffic so the golf carts and kids can zip around safely and it keeps the resort so quiet, you really feel like you are deep in the woods. To get to the park drive your golf cart to the dock and take the boat to the Magic Kingdom about 10 mins. Again so much to do everyone will find something fun.

Our family of 4(2 adults and 2 children 7yrs old & 4yrs old) stayed at Fort Wilderness Cabins for 7 days in August 2006. We have stayed at other Disney Resorts but this was truly a different experience. Mousekeeping was excellent. The transportation was not bad at all. We definately recommend renting the golf cart. It made it easier to get around the campground. The campground had everything. The only complaint was regarding the food options. They had a buffet but the only counter service was at the Meadows Snack Bar in which wasn't open whenever we went there(maybe because it was the off-season). After a long day at the parks it was a welcomed pleasure to come back to the quiet campground with no lines or crowds. It was an excellent trip and we will definately stay there again. The cabins were clean and there was more than enough room. We just wished we had more time to enjoy the campground activities(Mickey's BBQ, Hoop Dee Doo Review, Campfire and movie night etc) It was truly a wonderful experience.

Initially I was worried because everytime that I tried making resevation for this place there weren't any available, so when they confirmed my reservation I was really excited but also worried that something will come out wrong. Anyway we got there and there was our reservation, we didn't have any problems.

Disney's fort wilderness is an excellent place to camp, but it is best for children 12 and under because the mayority of the activities was best for this age group or under.

We had a lot of time together, we were able to rent bikes and go all around. The pool was great open until late which was very nice.
However we were dissapointed that we couldn't rent a golf cart, becasue nobody told us that this needs to be done resereved the day before, everybody wants to rent one.

Like all Disney parks they are very strick with their rules, there will always be someone making you aware of incorrect actions.
The spots for RV's are great, they have alll the ammenities and the cabins look great too.

Everything is accesible and we had a lot of easy going leisure activities. Eventhough my teenage kids were use to very avtive camping, it wasn't so hard to adjust to a nice, safe non-stressed activites.

My husband and I booked an anniversary trip (May 2006) to Fort Wilderness thinking that it would be a romantic getaway in Florida. Sorry to say that Disney disappointed us a bit this time.

Although the grounds are very well maintained & lush, the cabin we stayed in was not. There was mold in the bathroom and huge dusty cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. The cabin was very dark, even with all the curtains open. Plus, the beds are small. It would have been nice to have one king bed in the cabin. For a family with several kids, this is probably a more reasonable place to stay. The cabin has 2 full size beds and bunk beds. Although, I'm not sure I would want to crawl into the bottom bunk if I were a kid. It seemed like a small space and someone might hit their head getting in & out.

The time it takes to catch the bus to the depot and then ferry to the parks is ridiculous. I would think it would be more fun to stay at the Contemporary and just hop on the monorail. However, the ferry rides were pleasant. Bay Lake is just beautiful.

One thing we really enjoyed is driving around the grounds in the golf cart. I wish we would have rented it for more days, but at $50 per day, it gets a little pricey.

The food at the Trader's Post Restaurant was not very good. You could tell that it had been sitting out for awhile and it did not taste very fresh.

Some Restaurants to consider:
- California Grill (Contemporary) - pricey but fantastic!
- Spoodles (Boardwalk) - reasonable & delicious!
- Chef Mickey's Breakfast (Contemporary) - character fun!
- Kona Cafe (Polynesian) - get the fresh press Kona coffee!

We will definitely return to Disney, but may consider the Polynesian, Contemporary or Animal Kingdom Lodge next time around!
