Read lots of reviews on the place before heading to disney and wanted to give my 2 cents....
dates: flew into Orlando on the 12th and stayed through the 19th of Oct. 2012
family dynamic: myself and husband (27), mother in law and father in law (both around 60), brother and sister in law (around 35), and their two children (8 and 3).
We had two cabins on the 2300 loop (Shawnee bend). these cabins were close to the front of the resort and had two bus stops on either side of the loop that were approximately 30 yards away (so not very far at all). Like most guest have stated the property is really large and if you are not a particularly patient person then I would suggest the golf cart rentals to usher yourself around. It is a hefty rental fee of around 65$ a day (this price does not go down the more days you rent) or you can rent from an outside provider. I called around to check prices etc....every company i called was not allowed to drop off on the property but if you have a vehicle with a trailer hitch they will meet you about a half mile down the road and hook you with a trailer so that you can take it on the property yourself for around 35$ a day. We unfortunately did not have a vehicle with a hitch so this was not an option for us. We did however rent the golf cart for a few days for the fun of it but the internal bus system is great. didn't have to wait long at all for a bus.
Bus System: like i said if you are an impatient person this bus system can be tedious but we found them quick quite easy to do. There are 3 internal bus routes that span the campground. All of them will take you to the front of the property (outpost) where you can hop another bus to the parks...side note: there are no buses to the magic kingdom. you have to take the internal bus to the ferry landing at the other end of the campground and hop on a boat for this park. I love the boats!! the shuttle will take you to other parts of the campground as well (meadow trading post, trails end restaurant and bar, etc)
Our cabins were very clean and comfortable. We stayed on the murphy's bed in both cabins. Some reviews stated that these mattresses were very uncomfortable....well, i would say that would be true if it was in your own home or if you have back problems. We spent most of our days and nights at the park so when we got back to a bed I was happy to sleep on the floor if need be. But honestly they were not that uncomfortable. Very standard matress. We didn't have any no problems with our cabin really....the tv in one of the cabins was choppy (due to the satellite receiver) but it was in the cabin were the kids were staying so Disney DVDs were on most of the time. This was never an issue. The maid service leaves awesome towel animals in you cabin as well for a magical disney touch!
Overall i would definatly stay there again....
Some perks that we enjoyed: riding at night in the golf cart you can see so many animals...deer,rabbit,owls!! all kinds of creatures!! (we are from Mississippi so it really felt like home)....Also being in a cabin is great because its not like a hotel room were there is someone below, above, and beside you at all times. You have your own picnic table and patio to enjoy (the cabins aren't cramped together) The pools and jacuzzi are open 24 hours a day which was great for me and my husband. We are nights owls and enjoy being away from kiddies after being at the parks all day.
A MUST: The HOOPTY DOO REVIEW!!! this a a dinner show on the campground...located close to the boats and the trails end restaurant/bar. This is a definite must for small or large families!! It's a sit down dinner with a hilarious comedy troop...and the theme is Hoedown with BBQ!!! Food was actually really delicious!! BBQ ribs, Fried Chicken (that was better than grandma's), mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, seasonal veggies and a wonderful strawberry shortcake to top it off! I must say it was one of the best things we did all week!! The show was more than funny for kids and adults! Can't say it enough...must do!!
