If you're looking for excellent food, buffets aren't the place to look. However as far as buffets go, this place is wonderful. Went twice for dinner. Amazing selection, homemade soups & mashed potatoes, delicious desserts, large selection of fresh grilled items. Great place after visiting busy theme parks for kids & parents to get fast, cheap meals with plenty of healthy food choices available. Also visited Ponderosa & Sizzler buffets, & all agreed this one was the winner!
Last night was the last straw. After two bad experiences with both Golden Corral's on I-drive, we decided it is no longer worth it and will dine elsewhere. We always liked them before, in our homestate of Atlanta, Georgia, but not in Orlando.
Our first bad experience was a few months ago, during the breakfast/lunch changeover. There were hordes and hordes of people, mostly young teens just hanging around while waiting for the buffets to re-open. These people acted like pigs. Some walked around, stuffing food in their mouths, right off the buffet and it was just as another poster said, 'a homeless shelter atmosphere.'
Our second bad experience was as soon as we walked in the door, we were informed they were operating on a cash only basis, since their credit card system was down. The cashier, a very rough, type young man, reminded me of someone from the Bronx, was very rude to my husband. He barked orders at my husband and tried to over charge us for our 2 year old child. When my husband told him, two adults only, this guy had the nerve to argue with us about it, telling us we should have re-phrased our statement so he could understand better. We felt if he was that much of an idiot, he shouldn't be working the front. He was rude and confrontational in his manner. At that point, my husband said, 'this is not worth it, " and we turned and walked out on him. They lost 2 customers and we will not go back.
Now I should have known that this might be a bit dodgy when the woman at the entrance argued with me about how many trays I was allowed to take (apparently no more than one tray for a group of four). Seems an odd way to welcome guests to a restaurant.
This restaurant works on a strict quality over quantity regime and if your desire is to eat enough to last you for a week for under a fiver then you'll be very happy here. There was certainly a large choice of unappetising and unhealthy foods here. As you could help yourself most people had piled their institutional plastic plates as high as they could balance.
At best it was like a bad school canteen, at worst it was like a homeless shelter. I travel to the USA every two months and this means that scenes of gluttony no longer shock me but here the customers had taken the "eat as much as you like " principle to a new level.
If you want to eat cheaply in orlando, all of the malls have food courts, every street has at least ten fast food restaurants and I would reccomend just about any of these above Golden Corral.
Orlando is not short of 'all-you-can-eat' buffets, sizzlers and ponderosa to name but two, however Golden Corral by far outdoes them all. They have EVERYTHING you could want here. No matter what your tastes/dietary preferences are, they'll cater for it. Both me and my girlfriend have eaten here at least 10+ times on our trips to Florida and we've NEVER been disappointed, We'll both start with a shared plate of tortilla chips with cheese and chilli topping, then I'll happily get stuck into several fresh cooked steaks and maybe a burger or some roast pork, while she'll lay into the bourbon chicken and pot-roasts. We also both love the salad and vegatable bar and make good use of the truly MAMMOTH desert bar they have. All freshly baked on site and all delicious. If your in this area I very very strongly recommend you pay this place a visit, even if its just once and see why we hardly eat anywhere else. A huge selection of fantastic food, and all you can eat for $10. You cant go too far wrong.
