“Tasty Indian Vegetarian Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

We were unable to park in Downtown Orlando due to events linked to Memorial Day and so could not eat at the Fish Restaurant as we had planned.

On our way back to our Hotel we pulled over to check out some details on the SatNav and chose the parking lot of the Woodlands Restaurant by chance. Unable to find the name of the other place we were thinking of trying we decided to give Woodlands a go.

It was busy but not jam-packed with plenty of customers from India with whole families dining - a good sign. We were shown to a table and brought iced water. My wife chose a salty lassi while I chose a mango shake having regularly had similar drinks at a good vegetarian Indian Restaurant in London.

We had a selection of appetizers ranging from Pakora to Samosas and other delicacies including sweet chillies. We had ordered 2 dosai to follow and they arrived soon after we had finished the appetizers. The Dosai were delicious and beautifully crisply cooked with onions, potato and chillies. They were also large portions - so large in fact that we had to ask to have our curries, chapatis and paratha to go.

It is largely family-run with authentic North and South Indian food and some Chinese dishes for those who don't want to eat the Indian dishes. It was family and child friendly. The Service was polite, helpful and prompt.

Our bill overall with a good tip was $80 and very good value for money at that price. The spices were very evident and all the food certainly appeared to be freshly prepared. No meat or fish of course, and no alcohol either, but we were told we could bring our own drinks on a future occasion.

The Restaurant had a good feeling to it, possibly a reason why there were so many families eating there. The Salty Lassi had some added spices, the sauces and dips were explained and were unusually tasty, particularly the coconut and sweet and sour dips.

All in all the experience was one that we could not have anticipated when we pulled off the road - it was a pleasure to eat there and we thought it merited a firm recommendation. BUT, don't go if you will not eat vegetarian food or if you do not like spices as you will be disappointed. On the other hand, the dining experience is much better than you may have in many chains and you can be assured that it's authentic and well cooked. It is normally closed on Mondays although it was going to be open on Memorial Day.

“Very very good Indian food”

We felt the service was a bit slow, but the food was great. The place is definitely kids friendly. They even made food less spicy for out son.

“DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

I am from north India and i love south Indian food. but was very disappointed with the food
nothing tasted like proper south taste not even close to it, i would say it was more like some immature cook had made that and that to first time (without full ingredient). if you are not particular about taste then you can sure go head otherwise DON'T go there you will be DISAPPOINTED
better try to cook yourself from you tube i am sure you the one you will cook will come out better then this.

“Consistently good food at this southern Indian eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

We have been going here since it opened.
Very consistent and healthy south Indian dishes. Now have a buffet on Sundays.
Prices have gone up significantly but is always has people & do not mind paying.
Ambiance is very typical, but this place we go to just for clean, healthy and consistent food.
good eats.
